Road Dog

We got up fairly early this morning and got ready for our long drive to Dallas. I did all my packing and we got on the road right about when we wanted. Our first stop was Alma for a charge and some early lunch at Sonic. As soon as we walked up, one of the carhops offered us a pup cup of some whipped cream, which Muad’Dib loved. It was probably the busiest either of us had ever seen a Sonic, so the food was hot and fresh.

We continued on to our next two charge stops at Henryetta and Denison before finally making it to our hotel in Dallas. We barely had time to get changed before we had to head up to Denton, stopping one more time at the nearby Buccee’s for some more charge and a quick dinner. Summer said Muad’Dib found and killed a baby rabbit while I was inside getting food, which was particularly frustrating because she had his e-collar ready to go.

We arrived at the Murchison Performing Arts Center just in time to find Eli’s family and then got our pick of seats. I figured Tech was the last band to play after a long day of music, and there were still quite a few people there, but there were a lot of empty seats. We just happened to sit behind a composer of one of the pieces they played, and I convinced the girls to get their programs signed between sets.

After the show, there was a brief reception with some hors d’oeuvres. The kids eventually came out and we chatted for a little bit, but then Summer and I had to get back to Dallas. Luckily traffic was much more manageable at night. We got up to the room and crashed.

King size!

Walk in the Park

Summer went to work, but I was off for Presidents’ Day, so I got up and made myself some rice and egg for breakfast. I wanted to get lunch with her later, so I got around for a little bit of productivity, but didn’t really accomplish much after an anxiety attack. I ended up sitting in a bath for a little while before I finally took Muad’Dib to get her. We went to Cici’s since I rarely have an opportunity to go for their Monday and Tuesday deal any more. The food was good, and then I vacuumed my car after I dropped her back off at work.

As we rode home, I decided to stop by Allen’s house on a whim just to see if he was still alive. We ended up chatting for about an hour as I lost track of time, so then I raced home to get Summer for her vein appointment. Muad’Dib and I hung out in the parking lot while she went in for the procedure, and then we went up to Pleasant View Park to check out the dog park.

The dog park was way in the back behind the ballfields. There were only a couple people there with their dogs, and they were friendly up until another old lady showed up with a large pitbull. That was Mrs. Carnahan, an old junior high math teacher, who I didn’t have, but recognized. Her pitbull had a short tussle with one of the other dogs, so they ended up going to the other side of the fence, and eventually left. Muad’Dib didn’t mind too much though, and we stuck around for a little longer before going out to walk a lap around the pond.

When we got back home, I drained the basement and then put out the rest of the poison because I got video earlier in the morning of three rats on camera at once. Then Summer and I watched Cruella before bed. She was weary about it, but I thought it was a great movie. I finally watered my plants, and eventually made it to bed.

People do need a villain to believe in.

Never Stop Never Stopping

I slept in a little bit since I would be working from home today in the ice. Summer got up and made us corned beef hash for breakfast. Eaddie was eventually dropped back off at home, so the girls sat in the living room cross stitching all day.

Dad went out sledding, so Muad’Dib and I walked his direction and encountered him walking toward us. He went down a couple good hills, and Muad’Dib had a good run. We encountered a flock of children out doing the same, and before long I had to get back to work.

Summer eventually started on some tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwiches for dinner, and then Eaddie wanted to watch something that wasn’t funny or serious, so I put on the crab rave video. I think that pretty much nailed the assignment, but then we watched Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping. Eaddie and I found it to be pretty funny, but Summer went through the whole movie with a contorted face.

After that, Eaddie baked some brownies and we all went to bed.

Mania

The Immigration Holiday CDV

I got up at five to start the turkey and ham on the smoker. It was cold and dark outside, but fortunately it lit right up without any fuss. I even managed to chop a block of wood in half to throw in with the charcoal. Summer got up after a little while and went to a race that was evidently not in Conway, but rather at the dam. When she got back, she helped me get everything finished, and we actually made it to the airport right about on time. Eaddie, Eli, and Cici drove separately, which was fortunate because we sent them back for things we forgot.

We had a steady stream of family coming in for a little while, and it took some effort for Julie to take control of the layout of all the food, but we eventually got there. There was a ton of food all over the place, and I ate too much, but wasn’t completely gorged. More than anything, I was just exhausted from starting so early and running the whole time.

I brought the Onewheel and rode around with Muad’Dib for a bit, and then Kevin brought his Pint out so the others could try it out. Brandan and Nikolle both gave it a shot, but I think Cici spent the most time on it. We eventually went back in for Dad’s magic show, and then Uncle Rick and Tom jammed on a guitar, keyboard, and harmonica for a while. We were spread out around the building, so I did a lot of wandering. Muad’Dib behaved wonderfully, but it was surprising that he and Cutie didn’t really care about each other. They played very little, but both just kept wandering and looking for scraps.

As things eventually wound down, Julie showed off her plane and then we headed out. Tom and Angela would be flying out in the morning, but we planned breakfast with them before they leave, and then the others wanted to go to Petit Jean. Summer and I got to the house and I cleaned up minimally so she could go to bed.

All Fridays matter.

The Gathering

We grabbed Burger King and made it to work this morning through lots of sunshine, but it was still cold out. It was a short day with lunch from Marketplace Grill. I got the cilantro lime shrimp tacos, which were good even after the long drive, but just didn’t fill me up. They cut us loose at 2:30, so we ran home to find Eaddie making chocolate covered strawberries.

I took Muad’Dib for a run early since it felt too cold and tiring to ride the Onewheel to Point Remove later in the evening. He did great, and I got some rice from my parents so I could eat the steak that was left for me in the fridge at home. We got back and I ate, and then cleaned up before picking up Dad to go to the bar.

Tom and Angela were already there and trying to gather chairs, since they were absolutely packed with holiday visitors and trivia night. I saw Toby and Kyle that I knew from the schools, and more and more family trickled in. Muad’Dib and I went outside with Brandan to get Cutie, but she got way overstimulated inside with all the people, noise, and especially food, so he had to take her back out to the car for most of the night. I was really proud of Muad’Dib, and eventually just let him off the leash because he was happy to sit right by me.

We had a good time visiting, but it really was too loud. I hate the bar atmosphere. We parted ways, I dropped Dad off and got the turkey and ham, and then it was a rush to bed so I could start smoking early in the morning.

Good dog.

International House of Apples

We got up this morning and Summer decided she really wanted to go to the new IHOP/Applebee’s duo. I wasn’t thrilled, but I figured we could give it a try. We eventually got around and made it across town with Muad’Dib in tow. There was a wait, even as early as we got there, so we let him romp around in the adjacent field while we waited for our text.

Once we got inside, I realized how much of a remodel it was. The whole place was different. It was still a relatively small restaurant, but they had a full bar with a bunch of TVs, and I think that will probably do a lot better than a dry pancake house. The food service was almost surprisingly slow, even with how busy they were, just because they had so much staff wandering around actively helping. The food itself was actually really good, but I was a bit disappointed in my portion sizes. While we were there, I spotted Keith and waved him down for a quick chat before we left.

From there, I wanted to take Muad’Dib to PetSmart just to acclimate him to the place some more. He did really well as we wandered around, and then we talked to the groomers for a bit before leaving. Jonell saw us as we were walking out, and we talked to her and Chris for a bit before we left.

As we got close to home, we stopped at the Neighborhood Market for a turkey, since we didn’t have any more frozen breasts at home. Summer stayed outside and played with Muad’Dib in a field again. I ended up not getting a turkey, but grabbed a couple packages of steaks. I saw Frankie and Yong Suk while I was there, and talked to them for a bit before we left.

When we got back to the house, we cleaned the smoker in preparation for Thanksgiving. Summer was a great help eventually. Then I picked up some wings from Zaxby’s before taking Muad’Dib for a late night run. We visited my parents, and then as we were nearing the end of our run, Julie’s friend Claudia stopped me and we chatted for a bit. I didn’t realize she lived right around the block.

It was a rush to get to bed after that. I cleaned up a little bit and got ready for work in the morning, and then we were out.

Finish up, already!

Inside Outside

I got pulled off of my NetBox project today, but then struggled to focus on my new tasks a bit. People started leaving around lunch time, so Muad’Dib and I got a free Snack Wrap from McDonald’s and some sides from Sonic, and then spent the entire afternoon by ourselves upstairs.

We got home fairly quickly after work, and we had a quick run before making it back to the house where Summer was home really early. We ended up going to Pointe Remove in town to see what that would be like. It was surprisingly pretty empty, so we walked on through to the patio with Muad’Dib. I hadn’t noticed him, but Gary saw us and walked over to join us for the evening.

We ordered a couple drinks, a large charcuterie board, and eventually a pizza that were all fairly good. There was a guy playing guitars and harmonicas that were all cranked up a bit too loud for us, but we had a good time catching up.

It was a bit late when we got back, but it took us a little while to wind down for bed. Eaddie was gone for Texas, so this weekend will likely be for chores.

Everybody Out!

We all woke up pretty early today. The girls went outside for coffee with the dog, so I joined them with a cup myself. Eaddie had a football game in the afternoon. Summer went to work and the gym while I got cleaned up. Then I made myself a burrito just before she left for the pregame show. I followed along with Muad’Dib, and we parked at the aquatic center and rode the Onewheel over to Tech from there. It was a short show, and then she went in for the game while Muad’Dib and I headed back to the house.

It was nice out, so we ran to my parents’ house to see them. We visited for a bit before Muad’Dib took me around most of the rest of his course. He skipped zig-zagging through the neighborhood blocks, but it was also pretty warm out. I spent the afternoon cleaning up and did some laundry when we got back to the house. Summer and Shaana had an Alabama concert in Little Rock later in the evening, so Summer dropped her car off and changed before running out the door again.

The kids came home after their game, and I offered to take them out for dinner. I wanted to take Muad’Dib since the weather outside was so nice, so our options were a little limited. We landed on Buffalo Wild Wings, which was a typical and expected disappointment, but they let the dog in.

Eli had a wrap, and Eaddie and I split a huge order of wings. We didn’t care for two of the sauces we got, but I liked the rest. The potato wedges were good, but the portion size for the $8 large was absolutely unbelievable. A single russet potato would have yielded more wedges than what we received. Even the small tray they were served on had an insulting amount of free space available. It was as though we were at a fine dining establishment that served single bites of food on normal sized plates. Service was also incredibly slow, but they were packed inside.

After we ate, we made an impromptu stop downtown for some ice cream at the Cool Cat Creamery. Eaddie got some rolled ice cream for us and we sat outside to eat and visit. There were some skaters over around the stage area who approached Eli and me while Eaddie was inside, and asked if either of us could do a backflip. I asked if I looked like the kind of person that did backflips. Eli’s respose was that he had a dog at home. He elaborated, after seeing the confusion in everyone’s faces, that he couldn’t allow himself the opportunity to injur himself, presumably because the dog needed him.

We eventually made it back to the house. Summer got home pretty late, and then everyone was off to bed.

Like a summer night.

Signals Lost

I wasn’t at work for very long before I got a call from Calvin, who was at the warehouse in Conway. He was having trouble with the internet out there, and I didn’t know enough about the place to walk him through any kind of troubleshooting. I talked to Scott, and decided to head over there to check out the place.

By then, the sun was out of my way and I could let the car take over. It did really well, and got us right to the place we needed to go. Calvin had to let me in, and then he showed me the little box of an office in the middle of the big warehouse. From there, he walked me back to the core closet at the far end of the warehouse. He kept asking questions and trying to talk to me while I was trying to figure out what was going on, so I politely told him it was going to take me a little while to figure out what was going on, and asked where he would be if I needed to find him. That worked perfectly, and I spent the next few hours mapping cables and walking back and forth across the complex.

I don’t know how any of it worked before I got there, because it appeared to be plugged up wrong. I got their little Netgear router working again though, and then had to figure out lunch with Muad’Dib. The Rogue Roundabout turned in on bringfido.com, so I figured I would give them a try since they were just a little ways away. We found street parking and went in to inquire. Evidently they had a patio somewhere, but it wasn’t open at the time. The guy walked us back out the door to look for a table space, but then he changed his mind and just let us sit inside in a seat away from other patrons.

It was a fairly hip place, with long picnic table type seating. I would absolutely turn around and walk out if they were busy, but I wouldn’t mind to eat there again on a slow day. Of course I couldn’t try any beer, but Muad’Dib and I liked the beer cheese and pretzels. I didn’t care for the Wellington, and my Reuben was overtoasted, but otherwise good. I would have liked to see our server again sometime between ordering and paying, but otherwise it was fine.

We made it back to Morrilton, got some wine for Summer, and then it was pretty dull the rest of the afternoon. I did figure out an issue that Jessica was having, so hopefully that was visible enough after the call I had tiwth her and Shane. It seemed like everyone was ready to get out of there, and we made it home without any fuss. Again, I let the car do its thing, and it performed excellently.

I took Muad’Dib out for a quick run. My parents weren’t home, but we continued on around Inglewood and made it back to the house well after dark. Summer was still complaining of back pain after her bath, so she went on to bed. Eaddie was home and showered before going out again. I separated myself until it was time for bed.

pure tingles

Raining Dogs

Summer left early this morning for a run in Conway. I slept in a while, but was up when she got back home. Eaddie left for marching practice before a game in the evening, so Summer and I got around to go to La Huerta for a late lunch. We brought Muad’Dib along and were able to sit with him out on their back porch. We were the only ones out there, so service was fairly slow even in spite of the restaurant being mostly empty due to how late it was.

It rained pretty hard all day, but we thought we’d try taking him to PetSmart just to get him out a little bit. I let him out of the car and he ran up to the door and inside, so I had to wrangle him to put his leash on. After that, he went nuts smelling everything in the store. He didn’t seem nervous, but he just wanted to chase after everything. He didn’t get to burn off any energy because of the rain.

We needed to go to Walmart after that, but I didn’t want to get out in the heavy rain, so we just went back home. The three of us laid down to watch Thunderbolts and did some laundry. Dad sid they had bánh bao, so I took Muad’Dib over there to have one while they were still a little warm. Then we came home and went to bed super early.

No cats.
