Summer left for a race in Vilonia this morning. I tried to sleep in a little bit since I would be driving late, but still had to get up and clean my car for the trip. First, I made some eggs over sourdough, and then made some for Summer as she came in. Then I stripped the seat cover out of the back of my car and did a deep clean with a vacuum and a blower, washed the windows, and wiped down all of the surfaces to try and keep Mom from having an allergic reaction.

I finally had a chance to take my shower, then took Muad’Dib for a quick and early run before we went to pick up my parents. We barely made it to Ozark before Summer had to stop. I went ahead and charged partway so we could get up to Viet Buffet in Rogers and then back down. I was worried there would be a wait, but we actually got right in. Everyone really enjoyed it, and though it wasn’t all just like Mom made, it was probably the most authentic I had seen anywhere, and they had all the greats.

From there, we made it to the Ozark Music Hall and actually got to park right outside. The concert was far from sold out, but the seats I got us on the balcony were right behind a speaker on stage-right. About a third, to a half of the stage was covered up, and I was livid. We probably could have gone down to the floor, but Mom didn’t want to move. Summer and I ended up moving to the empty reserved section right next to us at the end of the stage. Nobody said a word to us, and we could finally see the show.

Everyone seemed to really enjoy it, and since we were able to charge while we were at the show, we were able to make it all the way home without stopping. We dropped my parents off at home, then Summer dove straight into bed. Eaddie had given Muad’Dib a bath, but he seemed to be shedding some dandruff or crumbs of some kind, so I wanted to give him another one. I ended up getting frustrated at a bunch of little things that were left undone, and gave up for the night.

What a bunch of geezers.

Apple Fraud

Today started out a bit better for me, but Summer got called in to work early due to having multiple people out sick. I got a message on my drive in that the scanners weren’t working, and it took me far too long to reach the conclusion of restarting the printers. It didn’t make much sense that two separate devices had the same failure complaining about the SMTP server not having enough resources, but surely as I restarted them, they immediately started working again.

At some point I got a text about a possible fraudulent charge from Apple on my Discover card, so I reached out to Eaddie and got a predictable amount of help. I wasn’t terribly worried about it, and figured I would resolve it later. At some other point, I had a quick anxiety attack that spaced me out for just a moment.

Jacob from Tesla Mobile Service showed up somewhere in the middle of all of that and cleaned the inside of my windshield in front of my cameras. The wipers still came on erroneously, but I no longer had warnings about the camera being obstructed.

I had some cheap McDonald’s for lunch, and then the afternoon was dead silent because everyone upstairs was gone. We didn’t see another soul all day, aside from following one car out of the gate. We had a relaxing drive home and then went for a quick run. I found my heated vest, so I was much more comfortable. We visited my parents, I had a little bowl of some turkey soup and scalloped potatoes, and then we continued back to the house.

Julie texted to remind me that she had a loaf of bread for us, so Muad’Dib and I rode across town to get that. We visited very briefly before heading back to the house, and I sat down with Eaddie to review some charges. There were several attempted Apple charges that I contested, and of course now I’ll have to get a new card number. It will be annoying, but was probably necessary after all three of the girls had access to that card number at some point in time.

Can’t write or rewind.

Iron, I C

I had a really rough start this morning after a few rough days, so I took some iron and hoped for the best. I got to work and immediately felt pretty bad, but I laid back a bit and leveled out. I mostly documented switch connections in NetBox, but after a while I got tied up in trying to install custom plugins.

We went to Ortega’s for lunch again since a taco salad felt a little more healthy than what I usually eat. Then the afternoon dragged on, cold and dry. I guess having warmer water on hand let me drink more, so that may be the key.

The girls talked about going to the Christmas parade, but bailed on that idea before I even made it through the door. I took Muad’Dib on a quick run in the damp cold, and then had some of the chili that Summer made. She had someone out to scrub the carpets, so half of the living room was soaking wet. I could only find one fan, so I put that on and then tried to wrap up for bed.

Granularities

It was an easy drive in today with full cloud coverage relieving my car of any glaring light. I jumped right back into NetBox and worked on that all day long. Teisha stopped by my office sometime before lunch to ask if I had seen the McDonald’s Grinch Meal, so that’s where Muad’Dib and I went. The restaurant was an absolute cluster, full of people standing around waiting for corrections. I’ll never understand what gets that place so out of sync. You’d think the computers would do it all for them. I’ll happily take a robot-assembled hamburger with less drama.

Muad’Dib got in trouble for climbing out of the back seat, and I had to tie him up while I ate. Then we took my new Grinch socks back to the office to show Teisha. I lost myself in NetBox in the afternoon, finally grasping some of the minutiae. If anything, we will be over-documented when I’m through with that place.

We left a little late and got home to run Muad’Dib in the dark. We visited my parents and was pleasantly surprised that they seemed hip to go see Scott Bradlee’s Postmodern Jukebox this weekend in leu of the kids. We quickly finished our run in the dark, and then the girls wanted to go out to eat.

I quickly changed, and the three of us took Muad’Dib to La Huerta to eat alone on the porch with a singular heater. I was surprised that neither of them complained of the cold, because the heater wasn’t doing much for us. I think what helped the most was the fencing that kept the wind out. We had a good meal, then came back to the house where Summer went to bed and I did some cleaning up, shuffling of things, and set some rat traps. Eaddie left to study, and I eventually raced to bed.

Let’s scrub some carpets!

Todo lo que puedas comer

I ran a little late today, but still arrived on time, and dove into more of my NetBox buildout. The morning wasn’t bad, but the afternoon got tiring. Summer came through on her way home from Little Rock, and we met at Ortega’s for lunch. They had an all-you-can-eat for about the price of one of their lunch specials, so I had that with an assortment of goodies. It was probably the best no-frills Mexican food I’ve had in a long time. They weren’t elevated dishes, but they tasted great, and were all molten hot.

Summer took Muad’Dib home with her because she had been having a rough day and needed some company at home. I finished what I could and made it home to take him on a run as it got dark. My board died again, but I was able to limp it back to the house where I cleaned up a bit and wrote a bunch of reviews before bed.

You look like you know what tastes good.

Clock Ticks

We got out of the cold, wet house early this morning, so I stopped by Hardee’s for breakfast. Once at work, I tried to pick a task and stay focused, but I still felt a little like I had imposter syndrome. We took our short McDonald’s break and finished out the afternoon with a bunch of reviews.

I grabbed a deal from Taco John’s when we got back home, then stopped at Superfast for some washer fluid while Summer was there for a late team meeting. When we got to the house, I ate my Taco Bravo and then made a ham sandwich while starting some laundry. It wasn’t until after it was nearly done that Dad texted about bánh tôm chiên khoai lang. Summer said she wanted those when she left work, so I started walking with Muad’Dib and she picked us up along the way.

I wasn’t very hungry by then, but I had a couple with Summer and then we headed back to the house to fight about laundry.

Twenty One a Day

Something Wicked

We wanted to watch Wicked: For Good today, since it would really likely be our last chance to see it on the big screen since Zootopia 2 came out across multiple auditoriums. I got up and made us a couple really good grilled ham and cheese sandwiches out of some frozen rye bread, parmesan, and cheddar. Then I relaxed with a cup of coffee before getting cleaned up to go.

Eaddie went out, but made it back in time to watch Muad’Dib for a while. We got to the theater just in time to find some good seats in front of Melissa, Jennifer, and whoever else was in their crew when we ran into them. The movie was good, but I never liked the second half as much as the first. I just didn’t feel like any of the music or themes were as strong, but it did wrap up the story well.

After the movie, Eaddie had left Muad’Dib outside for us, and I wanted to take him on a run before I gave him a bath. My board stalled just before making the corner to my parents’ house, so I limped it there and had Summer meet me. We went in, and Mom ended up making shrimp noodle soup for us. After dinner, we let Muad’Dib run alongside the car back to the house.

I gave Muad’Dib a bath and blow dried him while we were in the bathroom, which worked out great. Eaddie came over with a bunch of friends, and I put the dishes away before taking care of a bunch of Vine packages. The kids all left and I wound down for bed.

It’s looking at things another way.

Madness Is the Most Shining Way

I slept super hard for nearly twelve hours last night, through many wild and vivid dreams. I eventually got up, warm and cozy with Muad’Dib, and went to rearrange the dishewasher. Summer had another run, in the rain this time, but was back home and on the couch by then. We went to eat leftovers with Dad in the afternoon and I gave him the rest of the leftovers and turkey parts that needed to be cooked down into soup. Mom was asleep the whole time, but said she was itchy. Later on, Dad said her whole right side was broken out into hives, which would seem to have been more affected by sleeping on the unbreathable leather couch than just having the dogs inside. We probably won’t have much luck getting her off the couch though.

Eaddie left after we got back to the house, but then called Summer to say she was in a hit-and-run. I didn’t realize she was with Eli, but they got to the house in his car, and he had some relatively light scratches across the front-left bumper and driver-side mirror. All things considered, it could have been way worse, but of course they had almost no description of the vehicle that hit them. Summer and I had them call it in to the police, and then they left again.

Once I got cleaned up, Summer and I settled in to watch Wicked. I hadn’t realized how long the second part had been out in theaters, so we missed our only chance to see it in IMAX 3D. We’ll just have to settle for a Sunday matinee in town.

If only because dust is what we come to.

In the Doghouse

Summer had to work today, so I got up early on my own and went to breakfast with the rest of the family that was still in town. Tom and Angela had to fly out immediately following that, so we planned to eat at Old South right by the interstate. They ended up being closed, but we had some good time to visit at Stoby’s before they left. Afterward we eventually decided to go to my parents’ house to visit later on in the afternoon instead of going to Petit Jean, because Cutie had injured her paws running around the day before.

I went home and got some little disposable dog booties for them, and people eventually started showing up at my parents’ house. I brought the Onewheel along, but didn’t really end up riding it. We sat around and munched on some food, then took a walk with the dogs back to our house, but bypassing the drainage basin. The booties seemed to work reasonably well, and only tore up a little bit.

More and more food came out, my parents started cooking eggrolls, and I think by the end of the evening everyone had eaten too much and still had a lot left over. I rode the Onewheel back to the house with Muad’Dib and then drove back with Summer so we could all visit and eat.

I was really achy and tired all afternoon and evening, so I mostly laid on the floor with the dogs. Muad’Dib would get super jealous when I would pet Cutie, but they both kept wagging their tails in spite of their angry growling. Eventually everyone left, but I had to meet Brandan at Kroger to return Cutie’s water bowl that they forgot.

Eaddie had gone to her father’s, but got home shortly after I did. I laid down with Summer for a little bit, but kept wanting to fall asleep. I got up, was assaulted by a barrage of Vine stuff after a dead couple days, and eventually got to bed.

Good boy!

The Immigration Holiday CDV

I got up at five to start the turkey and ham on the smoker. It was cold and dark outside, but fortunately it lit right up without any fuss. I even managed to chop a block of wood in half to throw in with the charcoal. Summer got up after a little while and went to a race that was evidently not in Conway, but rather at the dam. When she got back, she helped me get everything finished, and we actually made it to the airport right about on time. Eaddie, Eli, and Cici drove separately, which was fortunate because we sent them back for things we forgot.

We had a steady stream of family coming in for a little while, and it took some effort for Julie to take control of the layout of all the food, but we eventually got there. There was a ton of food all over the place, and I ate too much, but wasn’t completely gorged. More than anything, I was just exhausted from starting so early and running the whole time.

I brought the Onewheel and rode around with Muad’Dib for a bit, and then Kevin brought his Pint out so the others could try it out. Brandan and Nikolle both gave it a shot, but I think Cici spent the most time on it. We eventually went back in for Dad’s magic show, and then Uncle Rick and Tom jammed on a guitar, keyboard, and harmonica for a while. We were spread out around the building, so I did a lot of wandering. Muad’Dib behaved wonderfully, but it was surprising that he and Cutie didn’t really care about each other. They played very little, but both just kept wandering and looking for scraps.

As things eventually wound down, Julie showed off her plane and then we headed out. Tom and Angela would be flying out in the morning, but we planned breakfast with them before they leave, and then the others wanted to go to Petit Jean. Summer and I got to the house and I cleaned up minimally so she could go to bed.

All Fridays matter.
