Incomplete

I went to bed several hours early last night, and woke up a little early this morning. Summer went to the store for some breakfast and then came back to make sausage, egg, and cheese biscuits. I worked on several things, including vacuuming for several hours, laundry, and continuing to defrost the mini fridge. Very little of it felt finished.

I took Muad’Dib out for a run and encountered a littlel dog with heterochromia. She was just running loose and came to chase Muad’Dib for a bit before a kid came out to get her. We visited Dad, then got back to the house where Summer warmed up some of the meatballs she made the other night. We ate and then I took a shower.

Summer and I had a talk, but like everything else, that conversation isn’t finished. Things calmed down pretty quickly though, and I had to prep for a week of salespeople and visitors at work.

She spilled her coffee; broke a shoelace.

Ice Cold

I continued to doze on and off this morning, slipping in and out of different dreams. Summer wandered the house loudly until I got up to some breakfast. She started to cook some bacon, but then left the stove on with nothing on the burner while she went to the bathroom. I got up and put the bacon on, but then she came out and took over to scramble some eggs for me. They came out grey and wet because she scrambled them with pepper. Afterward, we moved the couch so we could vacuum the other half of the living room, and then Summer had to mop the floors because she didn’t pay attention to all the mud in the back yard when she let Muad’Dib out.

I worked on some reviews and then started to get cleaned up so I could at least go to Eaddie’s pregame show. Summer left first, and then I got my socks wet because Summer didn’t dry the floors after she wet mopped, so I just stayed home. That was when I discovered the mini fridge had frozen up around a few cans, which subsequently froze, bloated, and leaked everywhere. I started to clean that up and let it defrost while I vacuumed behind what Summer had done. No surprise, there was still a bunch of that fine powder all in the carpet.

Hours went by as I cleaned, and eventually I quit to take Muad’Dib out on a run. It was pretty cold out, so he did great to run the whole time. We went to Ridgewood and had a Frito chili pie, and then ran into Eric and Carlie as we left. We made it to see my parents, and then got back to the house where Summer was warming up in a bath.

I was pretty exhausted and exhasperated by then, so it was an early, early night to bed.

Rainy McDainy

We got out a little bit early this morning, grabbed coffee, and got to work in the rain. I had forgotten I had a call scheduled with Tammy and the Aptean folks in the afternoon, so I worked on some other stuff in the morning and had to take lunch a bit earlier than I have been lately. I ate completely free today by redeeming a Happy meal, a double cheeseburger, and a snack wrap, but I probably should have stopped after the first two.

Our call with Jason went super well, and Tammy indicated she was at least mostly able to follow along to repeat his troubleshooting steps. We’ve got another call scheduled, but this one felt really good. I still can’t quite get a feel for what people think about me out there, but hopefully I’ve been visible enough lately that they at least see I’m doing things even if I’m not as forcably visible like Brandon had been.

The drive home was even rainier, so I ended up taking the first exit and driving through town. Summer was home working, so I made some rice to go with leftover chicken and what I think was actually chả trứng chiên, but Mom always calls it egg foo young. Eaddie was in Conway late, so Summer and I ate, she went to bed, and I continued vacuuming until I was more or less satisfied with the first half I’ve been working on for the past few weeks. I’m still getting about a tablespoon of what is essentially sand every time I make a pass over the area, but hopefully another steaming will draw out a bunch of that. I can be okay with a lesser clean under the couch, with the assumption that we’ll eventually leave this place.

And Grimace, too.

PentaCheese Soup

We got up and I made bacon and eggs for breakfast for Summer and myself, and even had a cup of coffee to get things started. Summer went to the gym while I cleaned up a bit, and we eventually got over to Walmart for some shopping. Muad’Dib had been stuck inside for a while, so we took him out. He had to run off some steam in the parking lot before we put him back in the car.

Summer was making tomato soup with grilled cheese sandwiches for dinner, so we got stuff for that along with some other random things we had on our shopping list. I was really hungry by then, so we got a bunch of chicken strips from the deli to tide us over until dinner.

Muad’Dib needed a run when we got back, so I took him out for an early run. It was a little wet out, but not too bad. He had a great run in the cool air, and we visited Dad before making it back to the house. Summer made a cheesecake and tomato soup, and once Eaddie got home from watching a recital out of town, I grilled some sandwiches on the stove and the three of us sat down to eat.

We cleaned up and I vacuumed the living room again, but I couldn’t really tell how much good I was doing since Summer had let Muad’Dib run around and get hair everywhere. I’ll have to clean the vacuum cleaner again tomorrow and go over it at least once more, but I think the amount of fine insulation dust is finally getting to an acceptable level.

It’s about standards!

Cloud Failings

Today started out pretty early with SharePoint sync issues, which reinforced my frustrations with Microsoft cloud services. I’ve avoided OneDrive at home for so long, and the business experience is no better. Sync had broken on one of the computers downstairs, and reconnecting overwrote all local file changes with the older cloud version, which it thought was newer.

Lunch was interesting because I wasn’t the best dressed person in the Morrilton McDonald’s. There was something in the air, because it looked like there was a higher-level manager on duty, and there was actually someon walking the lobby to keep it clean. The usual staff was still just as curt with their yelling order numbers, but the food was good, and otherwise it was a decent experience.

Muad’Dib had some big zoomies to run out when we got back to the office, and fortunately it was a quick afternoon after going to lunch so late. Mark texted earlier in the day, so I called him on the drive home. Then I stopped by Julie’s house to trade a Dutch oven for a pretty loaf of sourdough. We talked for a bit before I continued on to visit my parents.

When we left there, Muad’Dib started whining and I let him out of the car to run home. He did great as I followed him in the car, and then Summer and I ate some leftover enchiladas before she wound down for bed. I opened up some Vine stuff and then continued vacuuming until I had an anxiety attack, which mostly just left me feeling suddenly extra-exhausted, so I wrapped up to go to bed too.

Sleep Paralasys

Lesson Retention

I woke up surprisingly early today, but time dilated and I didn’t get the chicken onto the smoker until right at noon. I made lemon pepper wings and seasoned the thighs with an assortment of whatever spices felt right, and then when the smoking was done, I added some different sauces to some of both. We ended up having an early dinner with some steamed rice and some frozen veggies I threw into the chicken juice from yesterday.

The food was pretty good, but I always forget the little things I learn between cooks, and the barbecue sauce burned a bit. Dad stopped in to pick up some aging bananas, and I rested for a little while before finally starting to vacuum again. The vacuum cleaner was completely full after Eaddie used it, and then I also noticed the brush was completely covered in hair, so that was a chore to clean up as well. Cleaning that really helped extract more dirt from the carpet.

Too short.

Suck It Up

We ran a little late today, but not enough to matter. Between the pain in my elbow and my head cold, I wasn’t worth a whole lot. I did at least manage to bring my OneWheel to send along with our UPS pickup. We had a quick peck at Sonic and made it back for a long afternoon.

Summer had met the TCW tech to fix our fiber, so internet was back up at the house and everyone was there to celebrate. Eaddie and Eli practiced stuff with notes while Summer bathed. I cleaned up an assortment of leftovers and started a load of laundry before getting to vacuuming as quickly as I could.

I extracted canister after canister of the finest powdered dust, as though someone had dumped a bag of flour all over the living room. There would be occasional bits of hair or fuzz, but it was almost entirely the broken down insulation dust. I completed less than a quarter of the room, and I’m sure I’ll still have to go over it several more times. I had a pretty bad anxiety attack near the end that had me in a daze for a while.

McMonopoly looms.

Pick Me Up

Summer took Muad’Dib out back for coffee this morning and he got dirty chasing squirrels, so he had to stay outside until I was ready to give him a bath. I got up and finished some old eggs and RO*TEL out of the fridge before starting on my projects. Summer went to the gym, and I started digging under the sink to find where the garbage disposal was leaking.

I got everything cleaned up, but never could find a leak, so I just kept cleaning up the kitchen. Summer came home and mowed the lawn. I took a shower and kept at the cleaning. I misunderstood and thought the girls were planning to go out without me, so I ate some of the ribs I warmed up for them. When they finally explained that they wanted to cook something for dinner, they ate some of the ribs to tide them over.

I really wanted to make a few passes with the vacuum cleaner, but I just never had the time. I eventually took Muad’Dib out for a run and let him splash around in the creek. We visited my parents, and then my Onewheel died at the end of the street again. I turned it on and tried to power through, but it shut off on me without warning as we were climbing the big hill. I hit the ground hard and got some road rash on my left ankle and knee, but my elbow was by far the worst.

Summer came to get me just as dinner was done. Muad’Dib had to ride in the trunk, but he did great. We got home and I went straight to give Muad’Dib a bath and spray myself down in the process. The blood was only dripping a little bit, so we got through the bath and then I ate before bandaging up. Eaddie and Eli made Oreo balls and then disappeared, and Summer and I went to bed early.

My, what big teeth you have.

Dust Busters

I got up pretty early despite going to bed so late, and tried up some leftover hibachi rice with some other leftover steamed rice and some eggs for Summer and myself. She wanted to really dig in and clean some stuff today in preparation for some carpet cleaners, so she got into the floor, baseboards, and vacuumed dust off of everything imaginable. I spent my time sorting and unboxing some old stuff to get it out of the way. Eaddie was gone for most of the day, came back for a while, and then left again in the evening.

It was a tough time for a lot of reasons, but I appreciated the work she wanted to get done. We cleaned up the last of the spaghetti for dinner, and I took Muad’Dib for a slightly abridged walk. I let him dip in the creek before his bath, and we visited Dad briefly. Then at the end of the road, I was pretty sure I spotted Grant’s dad’s dog, Lucy. We tried to chase her down, but she took off like a lightning bolt and disappeared between some houses. I called Grant, but it wasn’t until much later that he received the message to pass along to his parents.

When we got back to the house, Muad’Dib got a flea bath, shampooed, and then some nice conditioner that all had a chance to sit for a while. He did great in the bath this time, and then we all headed to bed.

Downed

I was up late moving some more stuff, and I finally got a call early this morning from Adam, who asked for our address because he had put my parents’ address on our quote. He and two younger guys showed up, I handed over $3,500, and then Adam left the other two to it. They had to drop off a trailer and then go get supplies, so I took Muad’Dib for a quick run around the block. Then they came back to move some furniture and hang plastic around the room.

I tried to get some work done, but I still had so much other stuff to clean and move around that I actually couldn’t concentrate on anything. Coupled with a stomach ache for much of the morning, I just wasn’t productive. Eaddie came home from her first day of college, I scolded her for the state of her bathroom and had her clean it up so the guys could use it, and they eventually finished up pretty early in the afternoon.

The whole house was hot and dusty – moreso after more of the ceiling was missing. The plastic sheet slowly fell throughout the evening. I felt gross, and a shower didn’t help a great deal. Summer had to work late, so when I asked what she wanted for dinner, she immediately responded with Brangus. I mistook the message and drove to Check-H, then realized my mistake and drove the extra few blocks.

Summer enjoyed her meal, but just about ever aspect of our visit was middling-to-poor for me. It started with stale peanuts and a burned tumbleweed, then followed through with an old, dried up baked potato, and rounded out with a cold steak.

We got back to the house and I took Muad’Dib out for a run because the quick spurt of rain we had just before dinner had dried up on the ground. It felt quite a bit nicer, but got dark quick. I had more cleaning to do before bed.
