Supermeh

Summer had a race first thing this morning, so I went with her to the junior high for that. Muad’Dib and I rode around with the Onewheel, making laps around the building while we waited, and then he got some attention from others as we milled around waiting for results. There was another guy there with a small heeler that wanted to run and play so badly, but he didn’t want to let her off the leash, which was probably a good thing.

Summer got her second place medal just as it started to get really gross and humid, and we headed home for a snack and to clean up before our trip to Fayetteville. Eaddie was in bed until we left, and stayed home with Muad’Dib. We made it to Alma for a charge and pit stop, then continued straight to the Arkadia Retrocade.

We talked to Shea briefly after paying him twice the admission fee, just to show support for the work he’s done, and to share our excitement about the place. I think I actually enjoy it more as a walkthrough museum experience than someplace I enjoy going to sit down and play. I’m always a little disappointed in the condition of some of the machines, which I know are hard to service, but the place was also crawling with mostly unsupervised kids. It’s still a blast, and I would recommend it for anyone. It really seems like a passion project, and I love that he’s been successful with it.

After about an hour there, we decided we were hungry enough to eat a little bit, so we drove toward the Malco. I would have preferred to go somewhere uniquely NWA, but we stopped at Buffalo Wild Wings and sat at the bar for a couple drinks and some buffalo chicken dip. Then we headed to the surprisingly empty, but well-maintained theater for our IMAX experience.

Right off the bat, the audio was just too loud. It distorted dialog especially, and made a few scenes completely unintelligible. I enjoy Jason Momoa, but Lobo’s existence added nothing to the film. All of the characters were short-lived and mostly forgettable, and all of the action was depicted too close up and cloudy/dusty/blurry to be entertaining. The animation and physics felt fake, which could have been forgiven for the sake of a better story, but it just wasn’t good. There were certainly emotional bits, but overall we were super disappointed.

After the show, I found a place called House of Taste, which seemed fairly authentic Korean. At least the old lady running the place felt somehow relatable. The food was good, but seemed unnecessarily expensive. There were several signs about a long wait, but we were only bookended by two other tables during our visit. The food was served impressively hot in near-molten bowls that retained the heat well. My soup was scaldingly hot to nearly the last bite.

The drive home was much more relaxed, with a stop in Ozark to charge again. I hate that the trip is long enough to really require charging twice, since there’s not a Supercharger right in Fayetteville. We’d have to drive further north for that, so we just charge twice inbetween instead.

Eaddie had just finished mowing our lawn when we got home. I took Muad’Dib for a run to my parents’ house, but then waited by the pool for them to get home from Kroger. I helped unload groceries, then headed back home to find Eaddie practicing loudly in the bathroom while Summer was passed out in bed two doors down. I wrapped up quickly and joined her.

Who expected Seth Rogen to be the best part???

Strange Alfred

Summer left early for a race in Danville, but I didn’t sleep in very late. She actually got home earlier than I expected, which happened to be right as I woke up, so we got cleaned up and ready to go to Little Rock. We left a little later than I wanted, but we didn’t have a real timeline to stick to until the concert started at eight. I forgot to grab a pair of earplugs for Summer, so we stopped at Walmart in Conway for an overpriced pair of silicone ones.

We made it to Little Rock and stopped at the Bark Bar & Grille. They had an app I had to download to sign up for a membership, but then I had trouble actually purchasing a day pass. There were only two people working, and they didn’t seem super worried about making sure we were registered/paid/vaccinated. They had a “Shortie Smalls” menu and took our food order, and let Muad’Dib run around and make friends. He actually did really well with the other dogs, and wandered around away from us for a while until food showed up.

We ate and left since I felt a little guilty not being able to pay for a day pass. It was about time to check into the hotel, which wasn’t very far away. We got in and discovered that parking was an extra fee. Both chargers were occupied, and also appeared to require payment. We made it up to the room and then went down to swim in the indoor pool for a bit.

Afterward, Summer took a nap until it was time to go to the lounge for a pre-show dinner. I took Muad’Dib out for a break before we left, and met an old couple that were going to the show because he said he had a cousin in the show, though I never learned who that was. Once I put Muad’Dib back in the room, I ordered a pretty cheap Lyft to drive us the mile over the river, and we arrived early enough to be near the front of the line for the Legends Lounge. It was downstairs in a new room we hadn’t seen before, and it was actually a small dinner buffet instead of just finger foods like we had seen before. They had shrimp, polenta, and a fancy salad, plus other veggies and a couple desserts. They even had free wine and beer, but Summer only had a couple of those before we finished up and went back upstairs.

As we were in the merch line, I spotted Jen and Mike walking in, and waved them down. We already had shirts from the Bigger & Weirder tour, so Summer got a keychain and I got a pack of trading cards. Then we found our seats that just happened to be two rows immediately in front of Jen and Mike. We were a little late for Piddles after seeing him at the amphitheater, but I actually liked him quite a lot more at this venue. It was a good, long show, and I was surprised at how many empty seats were still open in front of us. Nobody was checking, so we could have easily gone down to sit closer, but we didn’t.

Getting out was easy with such a relatively small crowd. We decided to just walk the mile back, but I didn’t realize we would have to climb a bunch of stairs to cross the bridge. We eventually made it back after walking through the teardown of the weekend Juneteenth celebration downtown. It stank everywhere, but we got out alive. I got to move my car to one of the chargers, so we’ll be set by the morning. I ran into the old couple again while I was out with Muad’Dib, and they only seemed mildly entertained, remarking that the show was super long and could have been cut down to about 45 minutes.

Summer didn’t take long to pass out. I showered the sweat off, and dawdled a bit too long before making it to bed.

The Dog is Bored

We somehow got out even earlier this morning. I poked Intune all day, trying to figure out something I thought I already knew. We went to Arby’s late for a really disappointing cheesesteak, which made the afternoon not drag on quite so long. Summer left for Sip and Stretch shortly after we got home, and then I dug around the house looking for more high fidelity ear plugs. I did find more, but not either of the ones I wanted. We eventually had to take off on the Onewheel so we could meet Summer and her old workmate at Point Remove. It thundered in the distance, and we caught a few sprinkles, but we made it before any serious rain. The girls sat and complained about work forever, so Muad’Dib and I just sat back in a chair. Next time I’ll leave it for the girls.

Fetching is hit or miss.

Under the Wire

I had a bit of a rough morning, but we managed to get to work a little early for our staff meeting first thing. That took up a good portion of the morning, so the rest of the day kind of flew by. I had enough coffee in me to propel me through my normal lunch hour, but we went to Taco Bell a little later and Muad’Dib was so well behaved. For some reason he’s always much better there than at Sonic. That may be due to the number of carhops walking by constantly.

The rest of the afternoon flew by as I tried to fix a couple quirks, not really getting deep into any projects. Traffic was dumb when we first hit the Interstate, but we got ahead of the mess pretty quickly and made it home. Summer was already there after starting work super early. She was having a bath, so I got back to reviewing, trying to get over 90% before the end of the day.

A little later, Dad said they had spaghetti. Summer wasn’t hungry, so Muad’Dib and I rode over there to eat, and then headed home just before dark. He wasn’t running very much and wanted to skip several blocks. I didn’t argue since I still had more reviews to do, but I finally hit 91% before bed.

Lakey Sunday

Summer had plans to rent a boat for her work crew today, so she left pretty early. I got up for some breakfast and then got to work cleaning and sorting and reviewing. I had a decent groove going for the most part, but then Summer texted that she lost her Pixel Watch in the lake. I knew there was no sense trying to convince her to retrieve it, but luckily I had insurance on it. A quick chat with Nicole from Asurion and about $70 later, I had a replacement ordered for her.

I never made it to the shower before I wanted to go meet her at the marina, so Muad’Dib and I loaded up thee Onewheel and headed out to see them as they were coming back to shore. A park ranger asked me to physically leash him, so we had to ride back to the car to get that, but he behaved perfectly the whole time. We couldn’t find Summer until they had already returned the boat, but we talked to her as she left.

We made it back to the car and then went to my parents’ house to swap out a couple things. I brought the tiny robot mower home and left Dad’s new weather station. We got home and I continued my projects while Summer got cleaned up. We ate some leftovers for dinner, and eventually we settled down for another episode of Funny AF before bed.

Sunk Cost

Import-ant

We had a little bit of rain this morning, but nothing more than a sprinkle. We got there early and went straight upstairs where I thought I was going to easily have an import ready into the sandbox. Boy, was I wrong. I got Tammy to come upstairs to talk to me about it for a while, and I think I finally understood enough to continue on with my test. Muad’Dib didn’t like her there, or anyone else for that matter. He jumped and snipped at her, so he was in trouble for the rest of the day.

We went to Sonic for a small, cheap lunch, but then grabbed some curly fries from Arby’s on the way back. I fought with Traverse, Excel, and everything else the rest of the afternoon. I ended up leaving a little later and walked out with everyone else, but that meant traffic was a little better somehow. For some reason, my car didn’t have a data connection for navigation, even though streaming music and everything else was still working.

We made it home where Eaddie had Eli and Ceci over. Summer was in a bath, but eventually came out to have dinner with me. I was frustrated with Eaddie for still not having my earplugs, and she kept giving both of us attitude when we asked about them. We have a concert next weekend, and there’s no reason I shouldn’t have what’s mine.

I eventually drained the basement again while I took Muad’Dib out for a late run, finishing up in the dark. Then I did some more cleanup and reviews until a late bedtime as my legs continued to swell from being out of my hydrochlorothiazide.

And now we’re out of lisinopril, too.

Kolache

Shipley’s has a free glazed donut with purchase every Friday this month, so I got us out of the house early enough to swing through for that and a kolache.

I spent all day playing in Intune and Hyper-V.

We took a late lunch to Taco Bell for a pretty sad meal, so we went next door to Arby’s for BOGO snacks to take back to the office. I only ate half of those.

It sprinkled just a little bit on the way home, but didn’t do much more than that. Summer got there shortly after we did, but we didn’t seee a whole lot of her.

I took Muad’Dib for a run and we encountered some E-bike/scooter kids at the basin, and a couple wanted to try the board. Then we continued to my parents’ house and helped Dad replace a bad light switch.

Back at home, Summer was still on the couch in front of the TV and playing on her phone. I went to my room until bed.

Best part of my day.

Child Labor

I had the hardest time falling asleep last night, and felt like I had been run over by a truck when I had to get up. We managed to make it to work, and Janice had left me a slice of banana bread, which helped. It was a really long day to myself after that.

The sun was out in full force for lunch. We went to Sonic because they had a couple deals that would stack for a lot of food. The sun was so bright, I would swear I got a sunburn just walking from the car back into the office. The afternoon was long as well, but we finally got to head home.

Eaddie had Eli and Ceci over at my parents’ house to uncover the pool and wash the cover, and they were all done by the time Summer and I made it over there. They left to shower while I started frying eggrolls, and then they came back to eat along with Julie and Kevin.

It was a big crowd for dinner, but it was staggered, and we worked around the space we had. Everyone filtered out and Summer drove home to deal with the newly diagnosed arthritis in her knee. I took Muad’Dib on the remainder of his run, and tried to hurry him along to avoid the incoming storm. We got a little wet, but it wasn’t too bad.

The kids came back over and watched a scary movie all night. Summer hadn’t been charging, so I had to stay up to juggle the cars around. She may just have to supercharge tomorrow morning, because like everything else in this house, the car charger doesn’t work quite right.

More noggin!

Goats of Music Past

Summer left the house super early this morning to run up Mt. Magazine. She decided to start extra early so she could join some other ladies, and let me stay home to sleep. I didn’t really sleep in much though, and got around to shower pretty early so we could have the day together. Eaddie left fairly early as well, to prepare for the celebration of life concert for Cooper and Shepherd. I had an anxiety attack after my shower, but fortunately it was super quick without any haze afterward.

When Summer made it home, she cleaned up and we went to La Huerta for lunch. Muad’Dib got to hang out on the porch with us, and it was just on the hot end of comfortable. The humidity had me sweating, so I wasn’t super thrilled to learn that we would be rushing to get to the concert. We ended up leaving Muad’Dib at the house, and barely made it to our seats as they played their tuning note.

It was a very long event, with four speakers sharing stories between multiple guest conductors. I didn’t realize that it was a community concert either, or I would have suggested we sit it out. Summer enjoyed it though, and then we waved Chance down as we were leaving, just to say, “hello.”

Muad’Dib was in bed when we got back, but he was excited to see us. Summer spent the rest of the day in bed while I cleaned up a bit around the house. It felt a bit late, so I took Muad’Dib out for a run. It was still bright and hot, and then my parents weren’t home, so we came back home for the evening.

I continued to clean and tinker, and then Dad asked me to come help unload some groceries pretty late, so I took Muad’Dib out for a quick run straight to their house where they had already unloaded. We came back, I tinkered some more, and then went to bed.

And I didn’t even get to meet Corey!

RingCentral of Fire

We got in this morning and didn’t immediately have to jump into anything. I got settled, warmed up a breakfast sandwich, and got some coffee. Then my morning went off the rails when Amanda called to say that Shane was having phone contact issues again. He tried to call Elizabeth, but got her instead. While I looked into that, he got transferred around to a few people and then eventually landed with me, but the caller ID said Amanda, so I answered the phone as I would with her. That was pretty jarring.

My research and subsequent conversation with support got me through lunch, which I had brought from home. Summer’s chicken pasta was even good reheated. I ate at my desk in the relative quiet, but then it got even quieter when Janice left early. I had the last couple hours to myself.

The drive home was frustratingly slow, with idiot drivers blocking lanes. We made it home to find Summer in the bath. I wanted to take her out for dinner since she had an early mountain-climbing run in the morning, so we ended up dropping Muad’Dib off with Dad and going to Check-H.

Dinner and service were both way worse than last time. The salad was great, but the hot food was pretty terrible. We basically had no service, especially after our server left unannounced. Our last server kind of took over, but only barely, for the essentials. I left more of a tip than I intended because I was distracted when Josh called out to me.

I hadn’t really seen Josh since he left the school, and though he sent me his new number, he never responded to my texts. We got that sorted, and then I took Summer home so I could take Muad’Dib on a run.

The basin had flooded, so I took him around the block where they had bulldozed the local forested area. It was then that I remembered I had ordered a set of heavy equipment keys. We made it home where Summer was shutting down for bed. I played around with Julie and Kevin’s website for a bit, and eventually went to sleep.
