Scanned if You Do; Scanned if You Don’t

I felt mildly rumbly in the tumbly for much of the day, but it wasn’t bad. I brought along another griddle cake sandwich for lunch, which got cold sitting on the table while I chatted with the ladies downstairs for a bit. I ended up down there a lot to resolve some scanning woes, but also to discuss redundancies in processes and other meaningless paperwork nonsense.

What wasn’t spent fighting scanners was spent fighting an utter lack of support from Microsoft for collaborative address booking. Somewhere in the middle of all of that, we found some time between a bit of rain to go to Sonic for a small, quick lunch. I picked up some fries from McDonald’s on the way back because it was a bit too small for me, but Muad’Dib got a handful of those too.

The afternoon was relatively short, and then we made it home after fighting autopilot and its newly developed habit of dropping speed. Summer was making a stuffed spaghetti squash and chicken dinner for us, which was relatively delicious. She had been in her feelings all day, and it never got much better. I ended up having to leave for a run with Muad’Dib after she started fussing about work some more.

Muad’Dib ran exceptionally well because it got quite chilly out. We made it to my parents’ house pretty quickly, but he slowed down a bit just before that. We didn’t visit long before making it home where we found Summer winding down for bed. I got cleaned up and did the same.

S’more o’ that!

Frog Lick Mornings

We had to get up around my usual worktime alarm so we could get to Conway for Summer’s Toadsuck 10k. I actually felt pretty decent, and we got out of the house just in time. She already had her race packet, so we found a nearby parking space and dropped her off at the starting line, and then Muad’Dib and I rode around on the Onewheel for a little over an hour.

I was hungry enough to find some food, so we rolled a few blocks away to a Chick-fil-A. We were basically able to stay on campus streets for almost all of it, so there was no fear of traffic. I placed a curbside delivery to my black Lamborghini golf cart, and then sat at the tables on the patio to eat, once one of the employees unchained the chairs.

We had just a little bit of time to roll around the nearby trail before making it back to the finish line. Summer couldn’t find the showers because we didn’t read the description well enough, but she got changed and then we headed to the original Stoby’s to meet Randy and Russ for breakfast.

The restaurant was packed, but they had space on the patio to seat us almost immediately. The kitchen was backed up though, so it took us forever to get food. Our waitress gave us a 50% discount for waiting, which was awesome since we were just enjoying our time anyway.

After that, Summer and I went a few blocks away to Toadsuck downtown. She decided she wanted to donate blood, so Muad’Dib and I rolled into the crowd to find Ben and his family. Muad’Dib was a little bit excitable, but overall did great. Something caught his attention hard at one point though, and he took off away from me without turning back. I ended up having to zap him, and then he came right back. We got lots of compliments, so it was a good time. Ben’s family caught up to him and they wondered on while I went back to fetch Summer. We went into the mob, but quickly decided it was too much for Muad’Dib, so we made it back to the car and made one last pass through Sam’s Club before heading home.

Dad was having trouble with the lights at the old house, so Muad’Dib and I left Summer to go check things out. Mom was on another push for me to get everything out of the house, so I looked over some stuff. I think the garage will be the worst of it, because I had so much room to store things without parking two cars inside.

I was exhausted and probably dehydrated, so we made it back home for a bit. I started to get really hungry, and then Eaddie came home from her trip to Little Rock to check out the National Guard band. The three of us decided to go to La Huerta for dinner, but their patio was full. We ended up walking next door to the Gogi BBQ House food truck. I had seen a huge mob of people there earlier, so I figured it must be good.

Eaddie got some tacos and Summer and I had different bowls with chicken, pork, rice, and a couple of fresh sides. The kale I had tasted nutty and was delicious. We really liked everything. Afterward, we went to Las Delicias for some ice cream. It looked like they were training a bunch of employees, but they let us bring Muad’Dib inside and we had some pretty good ice cream before heading back home.

The three of us enjoyed some time on the couch together doing some tone deafness tests. Then Summer went to bed and Eaddie wanted me to watch the first episode of Invincible with her. I knew it looked interesting, but was afraid to start something new with such a big backlog on my watch list, especially leading up to Doomsday. It was a pretty good episode though, and it’ll be nice if she wants to watch more with me.

Puperfect!

Tip Cow WTF!

I made it out a little early in spite of waking up feeling completely dead, so we stopped at Hardee’s for a surprisingly good prime rib biscuit. We were immediately greeted by Roxy, who I had forgotten. Janice brought her once before, and I don’t remember Muad’Dib being quite as bothered by her last time. They nipped at each other a little bit, which was dangerous since she was roughly the size of a squirrel.

I tinkered with stuff intermittently, and finally figured out some domain configuration for myself. I finally put together a sassy tip screen to whip out when I do things for others. I even made a landing page for Julie and Kevin, but Julie wasn’t ready to publish anything and wanted to wait until later.

When lunch came around, we went to Sonic for a big burger, chicken bites, and cheese sticks. Muad’Dib sat next to me like a good boy and got lots of everything. It felt like a good afternoon, so I treated myself with a cherry limeade as we headed back to work.

The afternoon was short on account of how late we ate. I ran into some annoying traffic parked in the left lane, but we made it home. Summer had to leave for a team meeting, and then I got a call from Dad who had sprung a water leak at the old house. I raced over with a tool to help shut it off, but completely forgot about meeting Julie to do their lawn. I guess Dad didn’t think anything of it either, because afterward I went to vacuum my car and then was going to wait for Summer to finish her team meeting so we could find dinner.

Julie texted angry, so I raced home with my weedeater to grab some batteries, then got to my parents’ house to find her bossing Kevin around with his trimmer. I pulled a few weeds, but the work was done. We cleaned up, they left, and then I went home to wait for Summer.

I thought she was heading home from her meeting, but she sat in her car for a while as I raced Muad’Dib around the block. We got back just as she did, only to learn that she wasn’t hungry anyway. I ate my leftover KFC, and then did some cleaning up before bed.

Oh, gods…

Fuster Cluck

This morning dragged on forever, but then around lunch time I had to go downstairs to take a look at some laptops that were on site for the day. That led to some discovery, which I assumed led to more work due to our slow internet. I ended up skipping lunch and eating a couple leftover cupcakes to tide me over. I spent most of the afternoon downstairs working on a new laptop for Eric until quitting time.

We stopped by Superfast to check on Summer, but she was feeling really puny. She wanted KFC, so we went by there to pick up some food. It was hazy inside, so I had to guess that was just the new normal. The register still blinked strange hieroglyphics, and there was a line of people inside and out. It felt like I was standing there forever in spite of how many employees seemed to be legitimately working.

We finally made it home to eat, and I was just exhausted. I took Muad’Dib for a bit of a run at first, but then it turned into a walk until we saw my parents and eventually got back to the house. Summer was in bed, so I wrapped things up and went to sleep early.

What’s it take to get some decent fried chicken around here?

In the Drink

Work was uneventful today. It seemed pretty quiet, and there was still some cleanup inside from the picnic over the weekend. I just quietly hummed along, trying to clean up a bunch of old reading I had saved while learning my way around Intune.

We went to lunch just a shade early because we were already downstairs to help Amanda with the check scanner. We just went to Taco Bell since they had a $2 discount on select combos. I was pretty disappointed in my Cantina Chicken Burrito, so we ended up stopping by Sonic for a 99-cent corn dog before going back to work.

The afternoon was more of the same as I tuned into some music for a bit to wrap up the day. Summer would be home around the same time I’d get back to town, and Eaddie was there when we got there, so I was hoping I could take them both out to dinner. We never see Eaddie any more, but she had another sorority meeting in the evening.

Summer didn’t feel great, but I got her dressed and she decided on Burger King for dinner. As we drove by the new one, we noticed they didn’t have outdoor seating, so we continued on to Freddy’s. The food was surprisingly good, but as always I was disappointed in the amount of fries and the overall value for the price. We finished up with a custard, then went to my parents’ house to drop off the pool cleaner I got them.

Mom and Dad were preparing to shop, so we didn’t stay long. Muad’Dib chased after what was presumably a possum after hearing some walkers comment on it earlier. It was just seconds before we heard the splash of him jumping into the creek, so he had to run home next to the car and then have a bath.

Summer went to bed, and I gave Muad’Dib a good bath. It was hot and humid, but I spent some time cleaning up the dining area and put away the things that still hadn’t been stowed from the picnic, and then it was off to bed.

Ick Season.

The Dilemma

Feyd-Rautha laid on the porch by the back door all night long, and I could not have felt worse about the possibility of him going back to those people. He had finally started wagging his tail when he saw us come out, though he still hadn’t eaten anything but a couple treats. Summer left for Little Rock and I headed to work with the plan to deal with him later, though I texted Eaddie later and asked her to play with him some when she came back home from class.

I stayed pretty busy, but took time to email Animal Control again. They said they would send someone to do another welfare check, so I called to clarify that I still had the dog in custody. Tammie didn’t seem too concerned with what I had to say or what I wanted to do, so we just agreed to bring him in ourselves in the evening. I guess I wasn’t surprised, because it just comes with the job for them.

I met Summer for lunch at Ortega’s, and I was a little frustrated by the lack of service. They brought us a brand new bottle of salsa and then no chips, and didn’t get all of my order right. At least the food was good, but I could have gone for some more.

The afternoon was short just due to how late we ate, and then I asked to leave early so I could help Summer take Feyd to Animal Control. I raced home through slow traffic, and we wouldn’t have even made it on time if they hadn’t been waiting for Dreya to show up with another found dog. She talked to Summer briefly, and I took Feyd-Rautha into the loud, smelly, anxiety-inducing prison for the night. Tammie was of course unaffected, but did say the guy called looking for him. She did me the favor of not telling him that I had him, but said she would at least make him fill out the return paperwork tomorrow.

Summer and I headed back to the house and I started grilling steaks while she baked potatoes. I wanted to use charcoal this time, and it turned out pretty good. I even managed to use a small amount of charcoal without having a ton left over. At some point, we made it to the bedroom where I dug around and found my S21 Ultra, so I’ll be able to use it for the company picnic. We ate, and then I took Muad’Dib for a late run to see my parents. It was dark by the time we made it back, and we rushed to bed.

Oh, yes. I remember Gammu when it was Giedi Prime – the oil-soaked, blood-soaked hell hole of the Imperium!

21 and Lost

I went to bed super late last night and had trouble feeling some sort of anxiety or nervousness or dread that I didn’t understand. I eventually fell asleep, but didn’t stay in bed very late. I got up and warmed breakfast for Summer and myself, and Eaddie left for church. We didn’t see her again.

I got into cleaning and reviews some more, but never had any luck with much of anything. My S21 Ultra was lost, and I felt a bit lost myself. I should have known exactly where it was, and the fact that I haven’t been able to find it at all has been nerve-wracking.

Summer went to the gym and I went to KFC to get a pot pie for $4.20, because apparently those are the kinds of jokes they’re making now. That was a surreal experience, because I walked into a seemingly abandoned restaurant that had a few people in the corner that didn’t look like they were there to eat. It took a while to get noticed, but the staff was otherwise friendly. I thought my glasses were smudged, but the air was just hazy. It didn’t smell like anything though. The cash register flashed garbled text, and it felt a little bit like I was in the Matrix. I got my food and headed back to the house to eat, and luckily the pot pie was amazing.

Summer got home and mowed the lawn while I continued working inside. We had set out steaks to defrost for dinner, but they were still frozen solid. Dad texted that Mom made eggplant soup, so Summer said I could go eat over there and then come back to grill her some brats. I ran over with Muad’Dib, we ate, and then I went to the Neighborhood Market to get her food.

By the time I got things cooking, she reminded me that she had to go to work for a meeting, so she didn’t even get to eat first. Luckily she didn’t mind eating late when she got back, and then I cleaned up a bit before bed.

Oh, to be.

Down to Glass

I woke up with a stomach ache this morning, but luckily it was nothing long lasting. Summer kept saying she didn’t feel well though, and wasn’t sure if she was getting sick. Eaddie left the house super early, but neither of us knew what she had going on. Summer was going to make breakfast, but I stepped in for her to make sausage, egg, and cheese biscuits since she didn’t feel well.

After breakfast, Summer went to the gym and I jumped right into cleaning up and looking for my old S21 Ultra. I’ve been wanting to use it to play music at our company picnic, but I haven’t been able to find it anywhere. I dug down on my desk to the point that I could see through glass, and I even found my old Pixel 2 XL, but the Samsung is nowhere to be found.

I continued cleaning, stopping for a late lunch, and then to run Muad’Dib to see my parents as it got dark. Summer went to bed super early, still not feeling well. Eaddie was in and out and back in again, so we didn’t see much of her. I had an anxiety attack later in the evening, wrote some reviews, and then took a shower before winding down for bed. My feet and legs have been swelling up again, so I’ve been trying to keep an eye on my vitals. That just means more spreadsheets.

Dig dug!

Doggy Daycare

I considered breakfast this morning, but couldn’t come up with a worthy deal in time and just showed up at work early instead. Amanda needed help downstairs, so I spent a while working down there. Teddy came out of Rhonda’s office and ran around with Muad’Dib for a while, but then she made him go back before we left. The morning went by pretty quickly, but luckily we left for lunch when we did, because I forgot about the call I had in the afternoon.

We ended up at Taco Bell, then made it back just in time to hop on with the Aptean guys again. There was really no point to the call other than for us to be prompted to fill out a survey. I didn’t leave great remarks. The afternoon really dragged on after that.

Chick-fil-A sent me a free fry, so we stopped by on the way to get those on the way home. I saw Kevin and Hope at AT&T, so we stopped there to see them while we ate. Kevin was on his way out, but I caught up with Hope a bit before we left. Just as we were pulling out, I met the new store manager and we chatted briefly, and he suggested I should come back and work a part-time position they had because he “liked my vibe.”

I was pretty hungry when we made it back to the house, so I ate some leftover mush with Summer and then we sat on the couch and watched some YouTube for a while. She suggested popcorn and a movie, but I guess she changed her mind after I took Muad’Dib on a late run in the cooler air.

We visited my parents, and then I basically had to drag him back home. I ate some other leftovers and Summer went to bed.

Woah, again.

Grating Warmth

Muad’Dib seemed to feel a little sick this morning, because he jumped right out of the car and ate some grass, then sat down and threw it right back up. He didn’t act particularly puny otherwise, but something made him sick. We made it upstairs and got to work for a pretty busy day after that.

I couldn’t decide on lunch, but I thought I wanted to sit outside with him for a bit. That was until we got outside and he kept wandering around instead of coming back to me to get in the car. That irritated me to the point that I decided to leave him in the car while I went in for some Wendy’s.

The afternoon was busy as well, and we ended up leaving a little late. Traffic was a bit annoying, but at least Summer promised chicken and dumplings for dinner. She was breaking down a rotisserie chicken when we got to the house, so I took Muad’Dib for a medium-speed run. We visited Dad, and then I basically had to drag him the rest of the way home.

Dinner was okay. The lemon pepper chicken and canned biscuits made it too sweet with another slightly odd flavor, but it wasn’t bad. I tried to emphasize my appreciation. She went to be shortly after that, and I cleaned up and ate some leftover cake, but the kids got into it and destroyed a large part of it for some reason. I don’t know what they were trying to do, but it frustrated me. Frustrations compounded for a while until I finally got everything done for bed.
