Incensed

I felt pretty crummy most of the day, but at least it was dry out. Summer would be going to Little Rock in the afternoon, so she stopped to meet me for lunch at Ortega’s on the way. I tried to go light, but our server brought me an extra taco anyway. For the first time, I had to call it quits before I finished my plate.

The afternoon dragged a bit, but I didn’t feel quite as bad. We never heard from Lelan about Bác Vân’s ngày giỗ, but my parents planned to go to the cemetery in the evening. Summer didn’t want to go to therapy, but then Dwayne coincidentally texted that he had to cancel himself.

That gave me time to get home and settle down a bit before going to the cemetery, but then Summer and I got into it about her work frustrations again, and she pouted in the tub while I went to meet my family.

Muad’Dib and I met my parents just after they arrived with some fruit for praying, and then Julie and Kevin showed up shortly after Mom got the incense burning. We visited as they burned down, and then we headed home rather than go out to eat. I ate a sandwich mostly to clean up some food before it spoils, and eventually made it to bed.

it burns!

Just Eat It

I didn’t sleep very well or very long. I didn’t let myself sleep in because I knew I wanted to get some meals in, so I took Muad’Dib outside and then brought some breakfast back upstairs with us. I was really proud of him when he did a great job of sitting by a table alone while I went into the other room to get food. Summer was slow to get out of bed, but then I slowed down a bit as we were trying to get out of the room. We ended up checking out right on time, and made our way down the road to Southern Tail for brunch.

Summer walked up to the front and learned that they were only seating people with reservations, which would have been nice to know before we planned an entire weekend around the event. They didn’t take any of her information, and instead told us to come back around 12:30. We sat in the car until then, but when I walked back in to ask about seating, I was told there was a wait list, and we wouldn’t get a seat until around one. That they the girl got my number and called us back in at 12:35.

We got seated outside as the heat intensified. It wasn’t terrible, but it wasn’t fresh feeling. There was a pretty good band playing live, and the food was good though. Service was slow, so we didn’t have much for drinks, but it was an okay time. It might have been worth the price at a better season with some good company.

We headed straight home after that, and had a little bit of time to lounge before heading to my parents’ house to swim. The pool was surprisingly cold, and by then most of it was in the shade. Julie and Kevin eventually showed up with some Popeye’s chicken and we picked at a little bit of food.

I was completely beat by the time we got home, so I shut down quickly and got ready for bed.

What did you expect?

Passersby

We stopped at Shipley’s for a kolache and free donut this morning. It was a quiet day at work, and I just kept repeatedly testing Intune policies all day. We took a break for some Sonic, and then we did a quick run up the road on the Onewheel since I just transferred it from Summer’s trunk to my own earlier in the morning. The afternoon dragged a bit, and somehow everyone snuck out and locked me in at the end of the day.

Along the way home, we ran into some heavy traffic right at Blackwell, so we exited and took the highway home. We stopped at the old house to check out the lawn, then made it home where Eaddie had stopped in earlier in the day. She never said a word to me, so I tried to quietly mouth to Summer about my earplugs, and that lead to a fight later on.

I cleaned up, took care of a bunch of Vine stuff, and threw out a bunch of food from the refrigerator that had gone bad. Then I took what was left, made some fresh rice, and had everyone gather for a little bit of dinner. Eaddie left, and I took Muad’Dib on a short run because he wasn’t super motivated to move. We visited my parents and then helped a kid re-chain his e-bike because he had no clue how it was supposed to be attached. Summer was in bed for a race early in the morning, so I stayed up late tinkering with my new Anbernic RG Rotate. I assumed it was something that would be ready to go out of the box, but it absolutely was not.

The Dog is Bored

We somehow got out even earlier this morning. I poked Intune all day, trying to figure out something I thought I already knew. We went to Arby’s late for a really disappointing cheesesteak, which made the afternoon not drag on quite so long. Summer left for Sip and Stretch shortly after we got home, and then I dug around the house looking for more high fidelity ear plugs. I did find more, but not either of the ones I wanted. We eventually had to take off on the Onewheel so we could meet Summer and her old workmate at Point Remove. It thundered in the distance, and we caught a few sprinkles, but we made it before any serious rain. The girls sat and complained about work forever, so Muad’Dib and I just sat back in a chair. Next time I’ll leave it for the girls.

Fetching is hit or miss.

Mowtown

I chatted with Teisha for a while this morning because she had brought a bushel of bananas and grapes from a tipped truck. Then I tried to assemble a collection of documentation to funnel into NotebookLM for Traverse magic. It was otherwise a really quiet day, though I did spend a little time downstairs.

We picked up some wings from Casey’s for lunch, and they were pretty good. It was a good thing I decided to finish them, because I didn’t eat again for the day. Eaddie had gone to the other house to mow with Dad in the morning, and Julie called in the evening wanting to go finish the back yard over there, and then tackle my parents’ house after work.

When I got home, Summer had just finished mowing our yard, so I let her stay home while I went over with the trimmer. Muad’Dib ran along the way, and Eaddie met us there from Clarksville. She mowed while Kevin and I trimmed. Julie vacuumed the pool, and we knocked everything out. It was miserably humid, but the real heat has yet to come.

I finally made it back to the house and did what I could there before bedtime. Eli came over and Eaddie wanted to watch The Greatest Showman, so we found somewhere to stream that and then I went to sleep.

stupid and unmotivated

Long Day Under Water

I woke up last night with an intense pain in my right foot, which I’m guessing was from the weight of the covers, as light as they were. My feet have been hurting from the Onewheel, and I guess it was just sensitive to the pressure while I was asleep on my back for a while. We managed to get out with another burrito, but this time it was actually a little juicy somehow. It dripped through my fingers and I got a drop on my shirt, but it wasn’t too bad. We made it in for another day on the struggle bus, but I did get assessment mode working on a test machine.

We went to Sonic for lunch, but I didn’t feel great. It was super windy and hot, and I was already tired. It had been kind of a long morning, but the afternoon dragged on even worse. It felt like I was there for three days. Near the end of it, Joel came in to ask me to think about a way to automate some manual data entry stuff that they’re doing, so I went downstairs to talk to Rhonda about it. The whole process was awful, and worse, I had no idea where to start to make it better. I’ve just got to get up and spend some time downstairs with these people to see what they’re doing.

We got home a little late, but Summer had chicken ready for me to throw on the grill, so I got that started. We had a quick barbecue chicken dinner with some potatoes and Brussels sprouts, and then did a quick cleanup. Afterward, I drained the basement and took Muad’Dib on a short, modified run. We briefly stopped to see my parents, but tried to get back home early.

Eaddie was gone helping Autumn move all evening, but had to come by for a bunch of boxes. She was upset that after all of the behavior issues and nonsense everyone has had to deal with, Autumn continues to just get whatever she wants all of the time. She’s got a nice house that everyone keeps filling with things she wants instead of making her tough it out with some cheaper starter stuff. She said she wasn’t going to have nearly as much stuff when she finally moved out, and I told her she would, because she would also have the respect of everyone around her for doing it on her own.

I cleaned up a bunch more, and finally ran to bed, fretful that it would only be Thursday.

Come on, brain. Do the thing!

Kolache

Shipley’s has a free glazed donut with purchase every Friday this month, so I got us out of the house early enough to swing through for that and a kolache.

I spent all day playing in Intune and Hyper-V.

We took a late lunch to Taco Bell for a pretty sad meal, so we went next door to Arby’s for BOGO snacks to take back to the office. I only ate half of those.

It sprinkled just a little bit on the way home, but didn’t do much more than that. Summer got there shortly after we did, but we didn’t seee a whole lot of her.

I took Muad’Dib for a run and we encountered some E-bike/scooter kids at the basin, and a couple wanted to try the board. Then we continued to my parents’ house and helped Dad replace a bad light switch.

Back at home, Summer was still on the couch in front of the TV and playing on her phone. I went to my room until bed.

Best part of my day.

Drain It Again

I woke up around four to swap chargers and then had trouble getting back to sleep. We both met our charge limits, though. It was another quiet day at work. Summer had a meeting in Little Rock, so we met for lunch and I let our usual server pick my plate. Summer barely touched her food, so I ate the rest of it instead of ordering more myself.

The afternoon was a bit more productive until quitting time. About halfway home, there was a semi wreck being cleaned up, and then traffic was backed up going the other direction for miles. We got home without incident though, and I charged a bit while I waited for Summer to get home.

I had a bunch of Vine stuff to sort through. Summer was hurting when she arrived, so I ran her a bath and then had to start draining the basement again while I took Muad’Dib out for a run. He was very slow in spite of how nice it felt outside.

We visited my parents for a bit and helped Mom pull her water hose while Dad got Muad’Dib some leftovers. Then we made it back to the house and the water was still going. I waited for it to finish, then cleaned that up, had a salad, and raced for bed.

it over

Fixalotl

We got out slightly early this morning, but so did everyone else. I started the day downstairs with Elizabeth to try and fix her printing issue, and still couldn’t get her computer enrolled in Intune. Then Rhonda had some oddities. I finally made it upstairs and experimented with some Aptean print settings myself, and learned a new trick in Traverse.

Lunch time showed up and I went to pick up some fries from McDonald’s, and it took them eight minutes from the time it said my order was ready to the time they handed me a bag of food. I took those to Subway and picked up a sandwich, then ate in my office while I continued to work.

The afternoon was frustrating, but dull until quitting time. We made it home through some more rain, and then Summer showed up with groceries to cook dinner. She made some kind of creamy pasta with chicken and spinach, and it was super good.

After dinner, it was a pretty quick night of cleanup. It looked like my last catfish may have died, which was super upsetting after more than twelve years. I just never made rebuilding the tanks a priority with everything else that needed to be done. Then I did some bill paying, data entry, and went to bed.

Hah. Gas.

Try Again

We got out a little earlier today, with a sack full of goodies to take to work. It had rained overnight, but then rained on us again on the way, but we still made pretty good time. It had calmed down by the time we got there, and I continued tinkering with my Intune policies.

It was pretty early in the day that Teisha came around to let everyone know they were closing at three. I picked a good day to bring my lunch, because I would have felt a little bad leaving for an hour and then leaving work early too. I warmed up my old gas station burger inside the network rack while I bounced back and forth between my office and the maintenance computer I’d been managing.

A while after lunch, Janice came up with a bowl of strawberry shortcake. She said she assumed I would want some from when they had it for David’s birthday while I was out. I often question whether people actually like me there, or whether they think I’m doing a good job, but it’s been a long time since I’ve had a job where anyone did something like this for me.

The afternoon was short, but I ended up staying nearly an hour late trying to reset the maintenance computer again just to test its behavior. We still beat Summer home, even though she was supposed to be off at four. It downpoured on us again on the way home, but that was short lived. We ran to pick up a package for Julie, and then Summer decided she wanted steak for dinner, so we ran Muad’Dib over to stay with Dad and went out to eat.

Check-H was pretty quiet, with mostly empty tables. The food was above average though, and we had some awesome salads and some of the best service we’ve ever had at a restaurant. We filled up, then headed back to get Muad’Dib. Dad had taken him on a little walk, so we had to go fetch some poop down the road before heading home. I let Muad’Dib run again, and he trotted along happily all the way.

Summer and I didn’t really see each other much after that. She did a little work and then went to bed. I was going to lay down with her for a bit, but then she disgusted me with her lack of attention to hygiene when handling dirty things, so I separated myself for the rest of the night.
