PRImary Objective

The phone lines went down at the high school today, so I Ben had me contact CenturyLink to submit a trouble ticket. It took me a while to find the right number and figure out what I needed to say, but by the afternoon they had a tech replace a bad piece of equipment at their office and we were back online. I met Allen and Gary at the shop to go to Subway for a pretty satisfying lunch, and then it was back to the high school to tinker with laptops again. Overall it was a pretty boring, slow day.

When I got home, I played a little Overwatch and started on some laundry again. Summer didn’t get home until late, so I just stayed in.

Je weet nooit hoe een koe een haas vangt.

Too Livery

Summer left this morning while I started on some laundry. I ended up having to dry my pants twice because I forgot to clean the lint trap after washing my new set of towels, but at least my house didn’t burn down. We both finished chores in time to get some lunch before the girls got home, so we decided to try a new place in town called Sam’s Southern Eatery. Evidently it’s a pretty good sized chain, so maybe they’ll last a little while in that location.

The food was really good and consistent, so it made sense learning that it wasn’t just some new local startup. The prices were high, but they weren’t too shy with the portions today. I had a feeling that wasn’t normal for the menu items we ordered, but it made it a worthwhile visit for us today. Summer had plenty of fried liver left over, and even I didn’t finish my fish and crab cakes.

It was drizzly all afternoon, so we headed back to her house for the evening and waited for the girls. They started chores when they got home, and I put on The Matrix Reloaded, which took us the rest of the evening to finish.

Nom de dieu de putain de bordel de merde de saloperie de connard d’enculé de ta mère. It’s like wiping your ass with silk. I love it.

Raked Across the Kohl’s

I kind of wanted to go to Conway today to spend my $40 Kohl’s Cash and to possibly watch Sonic the Hedgehog. It’s a pretty clever cycle they get you on, since you have to come back the following week to redeem any rewards money you earn. Summer had to go by the shop for a while and ended up getting to my house a couple hours later than I wanted to leave town, but we left anyway. I snacked quite a bit while I was waiting, so I managed to wait until dinner time to actually eat anything.

We spent quite a while looking through clearance racks at Kohl’s, and I finally got Summer to actually look through most of the racks instead of just looking for specific things and buying them at retail “sale” price. We had a pretty decent haul, and I almost perfectly calculated my next Kohl’s Cash reward. When we finished there, we went to Golden Corral to use my birthday BOGO coupon. I definitely made up for skipping breakfast and lunch, and then we went to Sam’s to wander around for a while before heading home.

As soon as we got home, Summer climbed into bed and the day was over for her. I got up and played some Overwatch until I was bored enough to go to sleep.

Hey, Biff. Get a load of this guy’s life preserver. Dork thinks he’s gonna drown!

One Lumens, Coming Up!

We didn’t have any projects again today, so I was left to my own 1:1 devices (heh, heh). I did start off by coming up with a solution for imaging devices without network ports, so that was exciting first thing this morning. Afterward, the only work order I had was to deliver a document camera, and then I killed the rest of the morning at the high school just picking at things I’ve been working on all week/month/year.

Five of us went to Ruby Tuesday for salads, though Greg ordered a comically small pasta instead. I was quite happy with my greens, and even Gary had the salad today.

After lunch was more of the same until quitting time. Then I went home and dispersed some of the new plants I got. I planted a couple, and split floaters between a couple of different tanks. I really hope the red root floater does well, but I’m worried some of those things had been left out of the water for too long. At least she seems willing to fill in the gaps if they don’t all make it.

The girls are spending the weekend with their father, so I went to Summer’s to make burritos for dinner, and then we watched Glee until bed.

I spend a large portion of every day vibrating with a palpable sense of wild, irrational rage.

Plant Fitness

It was another pretty quiet day, though I did get out of my office quite a bit. First thing this morning, I had a trip across campus to the arts center. I spent most of the day messing with 1:1 laptops, and got two re-shipped back for service since they weren’t repaired last time. I thought for a moment that nobody wanted to go to lunch, so I was just going to work straight through, but Allen texted at the last second. He suggested Taco Villa, but then said everybody was going to Popeye’s. I met them there, and saved seats for the seven of us. I ordered online while I sat there, and they never called my name or number, so I ended up getting my food after everyone else. A little later, the lady came around with some free apple pies for those of us that had to wait for spicy chicken. At least the customer service was better.

After work, I had to get Eaddie from Superfast, then Autumn from her afterschool activity at the junior high, and drop them off at karate. I finally met the girl at the theater to trade aquarium plants, and we talked for just a little bit before she had to get to work. Evidently she had ordered some pizzas, because Neal walked in and made the deliver while we were talking. Then she got to work and he and I chatted for a little bit.

When I got back home, I dumped the plants into the sink and then met Summer at La Huerta for dinner. The girls went out with their father, so we had a little time to kill and I was pretty hungry. Then I went back home for the evening and settled in for some Overwatch until bed.

So much green!

Bossy Afternoon

I had a little bit of a rough start this morning, but ultimately made it in to work. My laptop crashed overnight, so I spent a good amount of time running diagnostics today to figure out what was going on. The tests were inconclusive though, so I carried on with a few things in my office. At one point, Karen and I poked through some closets to see where she might gain some extra storage.

Allen wanted Subway for lunch, so we both used coupons to knock down the price of their $9.19 Sweet Onion Teriyaki sandwich to something a little more reasonable. The girl did a great job of putting them together, and we both ended up finishing all of our sandwiches.

I ended up hanging out with Ben all afternoon. He wanted me to meet the guys that quoted us for a new Watchfire sign at the high school, but I was pretty underwhelmed. I guess one of the guys was local, and the other was some sort of traveling salesman. He seemed a stuttering mess for the most part, speaking only in hyperbole about how perfect their product was, and seemingly uneducated enough to answer the questions we actually had. For over $30 grand, I sort of expected more. I still don’t know why I haven’t just started making my own signs. I could be rich if I were ambitious.

After they left, we ran to Oakland to test the Frankensteined replacement computer we built for Center Valley. I ended up stripping a power cable so I could hold the bare copper wire to the power supply, and only shocked myself once in the process. I figured there hadn’t been anything exciting happen in a while anyway.

I had planned to meet he girl with the aquarium plants after work, but she messaged me to postpone it again until tomorrow, so I just went home and played some Overwatch for a while. When Summer got home, I ran to Sonic for a dinner snack, and then to get some gas before ending up at her house for the evening. The girls had to go to bed shortly after I got there, and then Summer and I chatted about work until bed.

I saw the sign, and it emptied out my wallet….

Unexpectations

Today was full of little surprises. I arrived at work to an open front-row parking space in the light rain. Then one of my first work orders took me to Neal’s room across the building, and he started a conversation with me about motorcycles that lasted through most of the advisory period. I gave him my number, hoping to make a new riding buddy out of it. When I stopped by the library, Karen gave me the pieces of laptop that our superintendent had jogged by a week or so ago, and said he had the police go back out to find it after he learned we were paying for accidental damage coverage. When lunch time eventually rolled around, Allen talked Gary into joining us at KFC, and he said he actually really liked what he ordered.

I spent the afternoon working lightly on a few different things I’d had sitting around. I dug around a bit in group policy, poked at the 1:1 laptops, and made a couple deployments. At one point, I spent a little time on the phone with Ronda and Jessica, and then later with Lenovo to ask about their depot procedures. It all went by pretty quickly, and then I headed home in the cold.

Summer said Autumn had a midwinter concert, and I wanted to try and attend this time, so I decompressed in Overwatch for a bit until it was time to get ready. I dressed up a bit and met her at the Center, along with her parents. There was a symphonic band for each grade, and then one band of mixed misfits, so we had to wait until Autumn played last. Some of the songs sounded like they gave everyone the same music to play, but I felt like they had performed better in the past. I just kept flashing back to Ratzlaff spraying everyone in the first three rows, yelling at them to be better. I don’t know what it’s like now, but it feels like it’s lost some heart.

When I got home, I put together my new carpet cleaner and internalized the entire user’s manual while pingponging a chat with Summer. I hoped to end the night with a little more Overwatch before bed, but I ran out of time.

Through all of the shadowy corners of me.

Just a Little Trim

I woke up to my alarm this morning and rolled over, fully knowing that I was about to fall back asleep. I woke up again right around the time I normally get up if I’m at home, so I was in a rush the rest of the morning. Work was pretty quiet again, and parent-teacher conferences had class out an hour early, though we didn’t get to participate in that. I just kept busy until lunch.

Allen agreed to Steak ‘n Shake since neither of us had been there in a really long time. I had seriously never had even decent service at this restaurant, and they’ve always been extremely slow in every single aspect, so I new it was a risk. The service wasn’t any friendlier today, but our food was hot, fresh, relatively cheap, and came out in record time. Overall we were very happy with our decision.

After lunch, I spent a while messing with the sound system in the crimson room again. I didn’t have the cable I needed to test, but after remembering I had an XLR-accepting amplifier in my office, I tested the equipment and traced the problem back to their amplifier. Fortunately it was just loose or completely disconnected cables from the back where someone had shuffled things around haphazardly.

When I got home, I had several deliveries to bring inside. I didn’t get to play much though, because I had to trim some plants for trading with the local girl I found on Reddit. In the end it turned out for naught, and she put off the trade until Wednesday, but at least I’m prepared now. I spent a little while setting up a Chromecast Audio in the bedroom with my new optical cable, then jammed while I cleaned up a little before bed.

Put it outta yo mind!

Pancakes on Pancakes

Summer took Autumn to Stoby’s this morning so she could prep for their Explorers fundraiser. Then the rest of us got up and headed down for all-you-can-eat pancakes. The food was simple, but filling. We didn’t stay long since Noah had to go to work. We stopped by Amanda’s so I could bring some packages in for her, and then went to my house until Autumn was done.

Summer took him to work while I showered, and then we watched some Glee. The breakfast lasted until around 2, so we went to Walmart to kill some more time until Autumn finished. Then we picked her up and headed home. I kept fussing at her that I was hungry, and that she should make us dinner after having worked for half a day. Unsurprisingly she passed on the opportunity. We watched some more Glee until dinner time, then I grilled some more burritos.

After we ate, Summer wanted to play some Catan, but we quit at 7 points since the kids were fussy and needed to go to bed anyway.

I will trade you one random lumber card for five lumber.

Fish and Burritos

We didn’t do much this morning. The kids ate whatever frozen food they could find, and I picked at some leftovers. Eventually I left for home as Summer went in for work, and the kids were left with a bunch of chores to avoid.

I played some Overwatch for a while before eventually taking a shower. The Reddit email digest I received today had a listing for some Salvinia minima in Arkansas, so I reached out and found out she happens to be in town, so hopefully I’ll have a local aquascaping friend soon.

As Summer got off of work and headed to the gym, I ran by Casey’s to discover they were out of their freebie, then continued on to Walmart to get dinner. Epic burritos are relatively cheap, quick, and easy. I managed to get most of the food ready before Summer made it home, and then I rolled and grilled burritos in a skillet. The kids wanted to watch Return of the Jedi with us, but fell asleep about halfway through. I guess sitting around watching TV and playing video games all day really tired them out.

Burrito in; burrito out.
