Hungry Sunday

I tried to make some Ramsay eggs this morning with a side of strawberry shortcake and grapes. It turned out alright, but it would have been better on toast. We watched several more episodes of The Office before we had to pick up the girls and get them home.

We stopped by KFC for a late lunch, then I installed some games on Summer’s computer before heading back home myself.

Mom made phở for dinner, which was a delicious surprise, especially after I had been talking about phở with Steven at dinner the night before.

I ended the night with some Overwatch with Clint. This weekend went by faster than I had anticipated.

Money money money…

The Great Dying

Everything seemed perfectly normal up until bedtime.

It was a pretty slow day again. I ended up driving through McDonald’s for a late lunch Happy Meal. Nobody else has really been around all week. I guess it’s been alright to recalibrate my eating habits.

After work, I came home for just a little while before heading to Summer’s for dinner. Some of the tadpoles were hitching a ride on a piece of celery that was bobbing up and down in the water, so I made a funny video of it.

Summer made chicken and bowtie alfredo, then we all played a super long game of Uno before the girls went to bed. The rest of us watched an episode of The Office, and then I came home.

I checked on the tadpoles just before going to bed, and much to my dread, over half of them looked to have perished. There were just mounds of them on the floor of the fish bowl. I spent a couple hours trying to sort out the living from the dead, but they preferred to mingle. I rigged up a bigger container for confirmed live ones, then sank a smaller container with the rest of the mix so the live ones could swim out overnight, leaving the dead behind. We’ll see how it goes in the morning, I guess.

Everything was great until it wasn’t.

Ready Player Three

Several members of our team were out today, so we didn’t have a meeting in the morning. Instead, we just worked in our buildings all day. Those of us that were there met up for lunch at Chick-fil-A. When we walked in, there wasn’t an empty seat in the house, so we left and went to Zaxby’s. Surprisingly, everyone seemed happy with the alternative. I saw John and Melissa, along with Jennifer and the rest of the family there too.

The other kids were spending the night with friends, so Summer dropped Eaddie off with me while she went to the gym after work. We went to my parents’ house to pick up some frog eggs my dad scooped out of the pool cover, then spent most of the rest of our time trying to find a small fish tank to put them in. I couldn’t find the one I had in mind, but had a fish bowl that suited them fine.

When Summer got here, we went to Conway for dinner and a movie. I still had a $10 birthday reward for Marketplace Grill, and then we watched the late showing of Ready Player One. The movie was pretty great, but I have a strong need to go back and watch it again frame-by-frame so I can find all of the characters and references. I’m sure someone will have a list by the end of the week.

Here’s the deal, Wade. You’re something called a ‘human being.’ That’s a really smart kind of animal. Like every other animal on this planet, we’re descended from a single-celled organism that lived millions of years ago. This happened by a process called evolution, and you’ll learn more about it later. But trust me, that’s really how we all got here. There’s proof of it everywhere, buried in the rocks. That story you heard? About how we were all created by a super-powerful dude named God who lives up in the sky? Total bullshit. The whole God thing is actually an ancient fairy tale that people have been telling one another for thousands of years. We made it all up. Like Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny.
Oh, and by the way… there’s no Santa Claus or Easter Bunny. Also bullshit. Sorry, kid. Deal with it.

The Hot Springs

It was a bit of a chore to get everyone up and down for breakfast this morning. We managed to get everything packed up and out by noon and headed downtown. We walked the whole strip, and even wandered around to find some of the natural hot springs. We didn’t do any shows or events, and instead hit most of the shops. The kids all ended up with some candy from the various candy shops, and I picked up a huge bag of jerky.

Autumn suggested Rolando’s for dinner, so we ate out on the upstairs patio in the back. It was a really neat, secluded seating area with a little bit of a view of the buildings that towered in the distance, and it kept things quiet away from the busy roadway. Ironically enough, she seemed to enjoy the food the least, but that’s how picky eaters do. Everyone else loved it.

On the trip home, Noah managed to smash Autumn’s phone case and got glitter and whatever fluid it was suspended in all over the back seat of the Murano. The glitter was a mix of some larger pieces, but mostly consisted of the finest little specks of gold. It proved futile to clean up at the gas station where I stopped, so we made it the rest of the way home and I tried blowing most of it out with compressed air. Two tanks of air in, I managed to get most of it out, but the only way to really fix it was to burn the car to ash and bury the remains. The weirdest part was that Noah claimed to have absolutely no recollection of what happened after having fallen asleep on the way home.

I did what I could, then got everyone settled in to watch Inside Out before bed. Hopefully it was a fair birthday for Summer.

Spring Break 2018

Today was the first day of our spring break trip. I went to pick everyone up around 10:30, and we stopped by the courthouse and Kroger on our way out of town so Summer could turn in her jury duty form and so we could pick up stuff for lunch at Iron Springs. It was a pretty good drive without too much traffic. When we got to Iron Springs, I got a fire started using some wood that was already there. We had a pretty good spread for just got dogs and chips.

After we ate, we climbed the mountain to look for quartz. There was a brief moment of motherly panic when we lost Eaddie and Noah, so Summer took off to try and catch up to them while Autumn headed back, and I circled back to a different part of the trail. While I was out in the middle of nowhere by myself, I must have found a spot of cellular service, because Jesica managed to get a call in to me. I tried texting Summer immediately after, but I never could find signal again until we got into town.

Courtyard by Marriott didn’t have any rooms available, so we ended up at Comfort Suites. The room was pretty decent, but I had constant trouble authenticating with their WiFi all night. We had dinner at Hibachi Sushi Buffet, which was surprisingly both busy and super delicious. Afterward, we ignored every mothers’ orders and went for a swim at the hotel. The water burned, but it was a fair time. Eaddie and Noah stayed while the rest of us went back to the room to get ready for bed.

Quick! There’s no way they’ll beat us back to the car!

Dinner and a Show

Summer went to work at Superfast for a few hours today, so I took her some Arby’s for lunch. They made a sudden switch to Coca-Cola products, which was kind of neat, though I miss the Tropicana fruit punch. We took a few minutes and ate on a bench outside the shop, then I headed home and struggled to stay awake the rest of the day.

We planned to meet up at my parents’ house for dinner, so I made some coffee to wake myself up and headed over there in the evening. She had all three kids with her this time, so my parents got the full experience. We had chow mein and some egg rolls, then afterward my dad performed his magic show that he’s been practicing for the Eureka convention this weekend.

After everyone loaded up and left there, I went to fill up on gas before tomorrow, then played a few blitz rounds of Fortnite with Clint and Jack. It didn’t go well, but I learned some additional mechanics that would have been super nice to learn from a tutorial mission.

Why plan ahead when improvising is so much more exciting?

What can I say except, “you’re welcome!”

I slept in again today, but made time to clean the aquarium and living room before going out. The girls went shopping and wanted CiCi’s, so I met them there for that. Afterward we stopped in to Shoe Carnival so I could look for some sandals. I don’t really understand it, but the sandals I wear are at least a size larger than my shoe size.

When we left there, Summer asked what the plan was, and I told her that I was going to go play video games by myself and she could do whatever she wanted. Eaddie said she was with me, so I took her, which I think was a surprise to everyone. It looked like Summer and Autumn went toward their house, and Eaddie and I went to my house, but then made a detour to get half a sandwich out of the office refrigerator. On the way back, we passed a bird sitting in the gutter of the road that didn’t move, so I circled around and we walked over to look at it. I managed to poke it before it wobely flew across the street. We followed it, but I never got to touch it again. I did get a sweet picture of it when it landed just outside arm’s reach in a tree.

Giving up on the bird, we came back to my house and met the others and played some Blokus before settling in to watch Moana. I loved the movie, and the 3D was spot-on.

If the wind in my sail on the sea stays behind me…

Chow, Man

Testing was mostly uneventful this morning, but it seemed to be a bit of a cluster for those running the show. I played a small part, which is the way it should be.

Dale met me at KFC for lunch. His idea. Allen didn’t even respond, but it went alright anyway. We found enough to chat about that it was a good time.

After lunch, I made my rounds between the buildings before meeting Allen and Amanda at the shop to hang a touch panel at Sequoyah. Jennifer saw us come in and snapped a selfie with me to send to her mom. We accidentally left a box cutter and some panduit in the room, which she thankfully found later and stashed away for us.

I went straight to my parents’ house for dinner where Mom was making her usual batch of chow mein. She said to invite Summer, so she brought the girls over after she got out of her board meeting. Autumn had already eaten, but Eaddie finished a good sized plate, and overall the behavior was choice. I don’t think it could have gone any better.

I guess this is my life now.

Need More Data

I spent all day entering fuel records for my R1. It wasn’t particularly fun, but it was nice to get it out of the way. I’m still somehow missing about a year worth of records somehow, but hopefully I can find them in a lost file somewhere.

Summer got back from her quiz bowl trip early, but I still didn’t make it back to her place until later in the evening. She made an awesome stuffed chicken breast thing for dinner, then we played Phase 10 until the girls went to bed and finished season 2 of The Office before bed ourselves.

I’m gonna chow down my vegetables!

Are you serious?

We crawled out of bed this morning just in time to get some breakfast from the bar downstairs. I had just about one of everything. I only regret not making it in time for the free beer the night before.

After we got up and around, we checked out and headed into town. I thought we’d have enough time to hit the mall and the strip, but we ended up only shopping at the mall. We spent most of our time in FYE, one of the last remaining general media and entertainment retailers. Then Summer tried on some swimsuits, and I remembered why I hated shopping at Dillard’s. By the time we got out of there, it had started to sprinkle, and we decided to start heading home. We did stop for some spring water on the way out, but then we hit the road.

It cleared up pretty nicely for the trip back, and I was surprised again that we didn’t encounter any leisure riders, either by motorcycle or car. It was mostly stupid trucks. The ol’ Murano carried us back swiftly enough to make me proud, and I dropped Summer off at home before heading to my parents’ house for a pre-birthday dinner.

They tried to broil some lobster tails to go along with a hodgepodge of other food. Mom made fried rice, but didn’t fry the lobster in the rice. I had a bit of everything, just like breakfast. My sister tried to fix 30 years of incompatibility by griping at it, and I had a Coco Rico.

When I got home and unpacked, I played a couple rounds of PUBG with Clint, and almost carried us to victory, but landed second place after getting shot in the face by a bush.

You make it hard to take anything seriously.
