Tired of the Hunnits

We loaded up the truck this morning and went to the high school to hang a second TV for the art area. With all of us there, we somehow still forgot to get a mount, so I drove back to get one. Then we went to Sequoyah and Oakland to remove a touch panel and SMART board for the painters.

When we got back, Zach was showing Thomas around our new area. The two of them met up with Gary for an early lunch, and Josh took Greg and me to Bocadillos.

The afternoon was mostly spent moving pallets of laptops to the junior high. It was so hot and humid that my heart rate just wouldn’t drop below the mid 90s. Finally we got to leave work a little bit early, but I ended up sticking around with Zach after everyone else left.

When we did leave, I stopped by to find Summer in the pit at her job. I went on home and changed, then met Dad to go shopping in the graveyard before the recyclers come. By the time we finished, I just wanted to swim to cool off. He came out too and showed me his new stand-up paddle board, and then we went in to eat.

Summer and Eaddie were already at the house when I got home, so we watched the new episode of Loki with Summer before she went to bed. Then Eaddie and I watched the first episode of season four of House before going to bed ourselves.

Duit

Summer took the Murano to work since her car developed a coolant leak. I took the opportunity to ride the Shadow to work, which was nice in thee morning, but got pretty warm in the afternoon. We couldn’t do the IP scheme switchover we had planned, so we took the whole crew to Crawford instead. There, we finished up inventory and hooking computers back up. We had a decent amount of new Panduit to hang, which wasn’t as much of a pain as the organizing of cables.

We tried going to Zaxby’s for lunch, but they were closed “for the time being.” I don’t know if somebody didn’t pay their taxes, or got in trouble with COVID funds. Either way, we all ended up at Slim Chickens instead, which was a lesser substitute.

After lunch, I went back to Crawford with Kyle and Mike. Then we went to Oakland to do inventory until quitting time. I ran by the shop to put my laptop on the charger, then went straight home. Eaddie wanted to go home, so I took her to the shop where Summer was finishing up.

They came back to my house for the evening, picking up Wendy’s along the way. We ended the evening by finishing the third season of House.

Scope this out.

Quit Your Mowning

I got up early again to get the kids out mowing the lawn. Autumn refused, so I let Eaddie take the cooler early shift. Autumn wanted to go to church with her grandmother, and allegedly made plans to help her in the yard. We made her come right back home after church to mow in the heat before she could go and spend the night.

Summer left for the gym and I went home to clean up. A little while later she and Eaddie were headed to my house when her car started pouring coolant. I picked them up and brought them home to finish the last couple episodes of Glee. Then we went to Bocadillos for dinner and ice cream.

When we got back home, we watched a couple episodes of House before Summer was ready for bed. Then Eaddie started Loki while Summer and I chatted. I caught the tail end of the episode, but then I was ready to pass out.

Just a little bit hazy.

Feltnerds Water-Burger

We continued with inventory this morning, with most of us going to the junior high to split up. I walked the building with Kyle and covered most everything. It even ate into lunch by a few minutes just because we lost rack of time. I ran across town to meet the others at Morelos.

When we got back, Zach had me go to the middle school with him to pack up some sample devices to take to The UPS Store to get a quote. Then I spent the rest of the afternoon at the shop just sort of piddling on things.

A little while after work, I met up with Gary and Mitch again at Whatta-Burger. They beat me there by several minutes, and then it took them a really long time to get our food out to us. It really didn’t make sense that it took so long. We had great conversation though, which was good because we may not have any more for a while again.

When we finished up, I headed up to Summer’s where we watched an episode of Glee before Summer went to bed. Then Eaddie and I stayed up and watched some House until I was ready to pass out.

Fun résumé is going to be the talk of the town.

Dismount

I made it in relatively early this morning and wound up on a crew at the middle school to help remove a bunch of old displays for painting the walls behind them. I kept feeling like I had other things to be doing, but I suppose I wasn’t much of a team player last year while I was getting things ready at the high school. I had an inkling of anxiety following me around all day, and ended up panting in the hallway at one point because I just wouldn’t snap out of it. Things got pretty fuzzy for a bit, but once it was over, it was over.

Nearly everyone made it to lunch at Las Palmas, which was good. That definitely made me feel better. Then after lunch I stuck around the office. I think everyone is just working off of the assumption that Thomas will be coming back to reclaim his old position from Ben, which doesn’t make me super happy. What will be, will be.

After work, I went by the shop to see Summer for a bit before going home. Then I picked up some Popeye’s on the way up to her place, not knowing the kids wouldn’t be hungry. We ate and chatted, and then watched some House with Eaddie. When Summer was ready to go to bed, we put on Bo Burnham’s new Netflix special, Inside. We didn’t care for it, but like Summer and her marathons, I felt compelled to finish it.

Boat life would be so much simpler.

AND I WOULD FLY FOUR THOUSAND MILES

I got up around 7 this morning to finish packing everything up to be out by our 10 o’clock checkout. We cleaned up most of the leftover food, including a couple sandwiches for our flight back. Julie called bell services, but we ended up having to send down one or two people at a time after people kept riding the elevator up just to go back down. We said our goodbyes in front of the elevator, and then Summer and I ran into our bellhop on the way down.

We checked our bags in, and then wandered the strip for the few hours we had before our flight. Between a pushy saleswoman with a fire-sale strategy and someone else selling hairy oysters, Summer settled on slicing up food for pearls. We let ourselves get talked into two pieces of jewelry and a third pearl just to take home.

Our last meal on the island was a Japanese place on the resort, which was pretty decent for counter service. Once we had eaten and wrapped up the last of our souvenir shopping, we went to the lobby to wait for Susan. She picked us up a bit earlier than the 5 o’clock we had initially planned, but we felt better with the extra buffer time at the airport. As we got out, she handed us a big bag of goodies as a thank-you gift for our egregious tipping. I gave her a big hug and then figured out a way to re-pack everything to fit into our bags.

The flight back on the 767 was absolutely awesome with the added space and the built-in display in the back of the headrests. We just barely missed the sunset while we were sitting on the tarmac. I watched a couple of movies while we were over the ocean until I caught the sunrise at 37,000 feet. I dozed off a bit a few times, but it didn’t seem too bad. Even Summer stayed up for most of the first flight.

Our second flight was delayed in Houston for about an hour because they had to replace a part. I don’t know if they were being truthful about it being a part for the lavatory, but the flight back was fine. We made up a bunch of time and were only a little late touching down. By then we were pretty hungry and drove across town to Chuy’s for lunch/breakfast/midnight meal.

Loaded up on caffeine, we made it home and dropped Susan’s gift bag for my parents and then picked up Eaddie at her grandparents’ house. As soon as we got to my house, Eaddie took off on her bicycle and Summer passed out in bed. I unpacked and then stayed up watching House with Eaddie on account of how much she missed me, clocking out after roughly 38 waking hours.

ALOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHA!

Baggage

I didn’t want to sleep in too late today, so I rolled out of bed once I woke up. I had a COVID test at Walgreens at 1, so I went home to clean up first. The test was a super simple and painless nasal swab, and not even too far up the nose. As soon as I was done there, I had to run to Mark’s to help out a bit. What he needed from me took seconds, and we ended up chatting about school stuff for a while after that.

When I left, there was nobody in the Ridgewood Brothers’ parking lot, so I crossed the street to see how things were going. Grant almost immediately offered me a sandwich, which I couldn’t turn down. I took it back up to Summer’s with me since he didn’t have time to chat, and on the way there I called Josue to see how he was doing.

Summer got back with Autumn from their car show fund raiser shortly after I got in, and then Summer and I went to do some shopping before packing. We went to Leonard’s first to spend a $5 coupon I had. Then we went to TJ Maxx for some cheapish rubbah slippahs. Summer got a neck pillow as well, and I’m not sure any of it was a bargain.

The packing took forever due to my travel anxiety, but I’m pretty sure I got everything. Fortunately we’ll have another day nearby in case something goes horribly wrong.

When we finally got back up to the girls, Autumn was in bed. I warmed up some leftovers for us, and then filled out some travel forms with my negative COVID test. Eaddie and I finished up the night with some House, and then went to bed ourselves.

Forget it, just grab all the sinks.

Bummin’ Sunday

I went to bed pretty late last night and then slept pretty hard until pretty late in the morning. Autumn was up and immediately threw a fit over absolutely nothing when Summer wanted to chat with her, so that got her into some trouble for the day. She straightened up surprisingly quickly and baked some cookies, and we were all good from then on.

I mostly played a bunch of Candy Crush like some kind of feral child, or meth addict. Eventually we got Eaddie out of bed, had her clean her room, and then cried through a few more episodes of Glee. We never got out, so I just made an everything-loaf sandwich for dinner. It felt like a pretty long day, but I hated that I didn’t get any more accomplished.

Let’s not have to wake up at 1 AM. That sounds terrible.

Crushing It

I got up a little early today for it being the weekend, and played some Candy Crush in bed. I warmed up some leftovers for breakfast, then had to get the girls from their friends’ house. Autumn had an appointment for a facial, so Eaddie and I sat in the car while she did that. Then we came back to the house and I did some tinkering for Mark before taking Autumn to the high school to play in the band for graduation.

I went on home to clean up and hang out while I had the chance. Then I went to my parents’ house to clean up some leftovers for an early dinner. Autumn finished earlier than she expected, so I picked her up and we went on back to their house for the night.

Eaddie wanted to watch some Glee, and we finally got into some pretty good episodes. We finished three before everyone went to bed, so we’re about halfway through the last season. I’m still ready for whatever’s next.

Four more work days…

So You’re PMSing Pretty Bad, Huh?

It was nice enough this morning that I got the R1 out, but I didn’t get much time on it. I started super tired and got a slow start, which landed me at work pretty late, but I stayed even later to make up for it. I felt like it was a pretty productive day of mostly helping others, but I also felt like I was the only one that saw it that way. I’ve been feeling more or less like a superficial cog in the wheel, taking on menial tasks without any real, tangible usefulness.

Lunch at Fat Daddy’s didn’t make it any better. Gary and I got the Tuesday special, which was a “brisket sandwich” that looked like an overcooked philly cheesesteak sandwich without the grilled onions or peppers. It was more like a French dip than anything, and it was pretty awful. I left hungry and dissatisfied, both because of the food and the amount of time it took to get to us. I don’t know how a barbecue place that has to smoke meats hours ahead can take so long to slice and assemble a plate.

The afternoon was successful in that I got rid of the Mac that has been sitting downstairs for the past couple weeks. I was also promised some recommendations for Ben’s position, though I’m not super hopeful about that. I’m cautiously, if not unjustifiably optimistic. Ben told me to take my speakers home, which sort of inadvertently crushed what little bit of happiness I’ve had at work lately.

I stopped by to see Summer on the way home and we chatted a little bit before she went home. Still hungry from a disappointing lunch, I stopped by McDonald’s for a sad bacon double quarter pounder, then Wendy’s for a sad order of fries. I ate, finished up a bottle of apple pie, and watched a couple more episodes of Superman & Lois before crashing for the night.

I suppose you’re all wondering why I called you here today.
