COMPLETELY LEGITIMATE BUSINESS PRACTICES

We had an educational meeting this morning, and covered GoGuardian, our prospective replacement for Impero. We were never really satisfied with Impero, though we hardly broke the surface of what it could do. GoGuardian will allow us to give the parents some control over web filtering though, which is something people want in a time when we’re handing foreign technology to children and basically not educating adults enough to manage that responsibility on their own.

After the meeting, we had to unload a pallet of water bottles, which I still don’t drink because we have a filter on the faucet. Then I spent the whole day in my office working on a workaround to run a piece of software for a high school science course.

Mike ended up taking over half a day off when he left early for an eye appointment before lunch. The more I’m around that guy, the shadier the vibes I get. The rest of us went to Mulan’s for lunch together. Greg complained, presumably because they serve vegetables there, and picked up some Sonic on the way back to work.

The afternoon went by slower than the morning, and several of us took a break to dig around for the hidden bead curtain some more. I called Melinda to check in, and she wouldn’t spill the beads.

When we left, I stopped by to see Summer at the shop for a while, then came on home to start some laundry and clean up a bit. The girls all came over eventually, and three of us watched another episode of Falcon and the Winter Soldier. We’re way behind, but maybe tomorrow we’ll get a chance to catch up if it’s rainy all morning.

Pay no attention to the man behind the beaded curtain.

Treasure Hunt

I’d been out of work so frequently lately that I forgot my backpack this morning. This was a problem because I actually took my laptop home over spring break, and I needed it for work. I ran back home, then ended up at the high school for the morning to help Mike replace some laptop screens, which turned out to be pretty simple.

Summer and I had a lunch date, but I had to be back to the shop in time for training right after, so I quickly ran to get her and get to Mulan’s. The food was super good today, which made me that much sadder that I didn’t have time for dessert. I barely made it back in time. Karie was already at the shop and had already started, but it was just a refresher for me anyway. She kept it short, because the real TLDR is that we have to fix things without looking at anything.

I stayed there for the rest of the afternoon, and had to go hunting for all the things Melinda took out of my office. She found the cricket and hid it in the ceiling right above me, which wasn’t at all creative. I felt like I was annoying others more than anything, since I had to go through their things to find my own. She took so many things that I didn’t even remember what all was missing, but I think I found it all with some help from the others that were less than excited by her shenanigans.

The girls walked to Oakland after school, so I picked them up and took them home after work. Then I dropped Autumn off for her third last day of Monday night school. I stopped in to fix a couple computers in Ethan’s lab, then met Summer at the house so we could watch the newest episode of Falcon and Winter Soldier with Eaddie. As that ended, they had to leave and get Autumn.

I just relaxed for the rest of the evening. My blood pressure has been high without my medication, so I’m starting back on it in the mornings to see if it makes any difference compared to taking it in the evening. Hopefully the anxiety attacks don’t return, but if they do at least I’ll be prepared with a better explanation for them.

April Fools is coming…

Bike Day

Eaddie and I got up this morning and rode the Shadow to the Ridgewood Brothers for lunch. I called Dad and had him meet us there too, and Grant was so excited to see all of us. I finally got to try the cheddar jalapeƱo sausage, and it was fantastic. I had the bronco sandwich, which had a link on it, and got an extra one to go as well. Felix was feeling some attitude today, but overall came through in taking care of us.

After we ate, we ran by the shop to share some banana pudding with Summer. Then Eaddie and I took a long motorcycle ride around town. We went around the marina, peeping at houses along the way. Then we took a slow cruise through the park before continuing up the mountain and back down to Old Post. She wanted to get off and play around in the park a bit, so we goofed around a bit and had some swing time. Sheri spotted me and came by to ask if I would be applying for Ben’s job. I appreciated that she at least said I would be good at it.

Once Eaddie got tired of the park, we went back up the mountain and finished the Skyline loop before making it back home. We watched a couple episodes of House, and then she took off on her bicycle while I poked around the garage some more. It was just the smallest amount of organizational progress, but at least it was something. Eventually I needed a break and took the R1 across town to deliver the CPL sticker I had forgotten to bring Grant earlier in the morning. We chatted for a little while more before I headed home.

Eaddie met me there, and we drove back up to Summer’s for the evening. Autumn was feeling moody, I suppose, and secluded herself as usual. Eaddie convinced Summer to watch a couple episodes of Glee, which finally got us started on the final season. At this point I’m just ready to be done with the show. It’s so far beyond everything that I used to love about it, so I’m ready to move on to the next thing.

Riding around town was more fun than the long highway ride to the rally, and the barbecue was leagues better too.

A Boiled Pot Never Watches

I slept in quite a bit later than I wanted to this morning. When I did finally roll out of bed, the girls were already up and picked at leftovers for lunch. I scavenged some chicken tacos myself as Summer got them onto chores for the day.

I felt pretty helpless all day, and wanted to go home to accomplish anything. Summer and Autumn went grocery shopping and brought back stuff to make patty melts for dinner, so I waited for that.

Instead of cooking any of it on the griddle, Autumn burned some onions in a pan and then made hamburger patties on the grill. She kept disappearing while she was supposed to be cooking, and didn’t realize when the fire had blown out from the wind outside. She had me cook fries because she didn’t want to deal with the deep fryer, but I ended up making a mess of things when the whole pot boiled over. Fortunately there was no serious damage, but it sure made a mess.

When we finished eating, I stuck around for half a game of Monopoly, and ended up settling in as the sprinkling outside turned into a full-fledged rain. Finally, we finished WandaVision, and did our best to go to bed at a reasonable time after losing an hour last night.

Get your hoe ready!

Driven Mad

I must not have slept well last night, because I could barely crawl out of bed this morning. I begrudgingly made it to work and settled in though, and after a while it was fine. I picked at a few things here and there, successfully keeping busy, though possibly not looking so. I did at least feel helpful and accomplished.

Zach and I went to Wendy’s for lunch since the lobby was finally open again. It really shouldn’t have been, because that place was a joke. It took us forever to place our orders, the kid behind the counter seemed super flustered and kept having to run around doing things twice because he wasn’t doing things efficiently, like passing out cups, lids, and straws all separately. The food, though it appeared to be made fresh, was relatively cold when we sat down to eat it. It just wasn’t at all what we’ve come to expect from our favorite burger chain.

After lunch, I rode to the high school to try and help Mike with some stuff. He was super scattered as usual, but we eventually made some progress. I did have to run back to the shop for some parts we discussed before lunch, but at least we got started. I ended up working a bit late after only making enough cable to hook up four computers.

Dad came over after work to meet another guy to quote us on the bathroom remodels. I liked these guys the most out of the four we’ve had come out. They were young and respectful, and were clearly the guys that would be doing the actual work. They took note of what we wanted, and offered useful comments without any extra fluff or ambiguity.

Summer dropped Eaddie off with me so the two of us could go to CiCi’s after everyone left. Autumn went to the gym as a sort of punishment for last night, and Eaddie and I had a nice little date night. We ate and talked for quite a while before riding back home to finish up her last episode of WandaVision. We couldn’t resist watching one more, but now we just have the finale for this weekend.

When we got up to Summer’s, Autumn was working on a school project but wanted to talk about her feelings after realizing she needed some money and permission to go on a band trip. It was a super easy decision for me, but Summer was more empathetic. Maybe I’ve just had too many insincere apologies, but I’m not going to let her jerk us around like that. Everyone shuffled off to bed pretty quickly after that, and I followed suit.

Wolf!

And Then, Crickets…

It seemed like a perfectly normal, average day. It was frosty in the morning, then warm in the afternoon. I spent most of the day picking at things at the shop. Things were relatively quiet, save for a brief fire at the junior high during testing. Nobody mentioned food, so I went home and finished the leftover pretzel pizza, then brought the R1 back to work.

Brody had some questions, so I spent some time with him at the junior high before ending back up at the shop. Melinda spent a good amount of the afternoon guessing with certainty that Greg had stolen the magazine to her dart gun. I planted a prank device, but it seemed to only go off shortly after she had left the room. I ended the day with some exciting, but sad news.

The girls walked to the house after school, so I picked them up after work and we got some Subway to take to Summer at the shop. We split a pair of footlongs before we dropped Autumn off for her last day of night school. Then Eaddie and I went home to watch a couple episodes of WandaVision. Summer got home just before the conclusion of episode seven, so we stopped as not to reveal any spoilers.

The girls left for home, and I reassembled my master closet the best I could. It needs to be rearranged, but at least I have a bed again. Tomorrow looks to be busy, so hopefully I sleep right through the night.

Bye, bye, bye!

New Digs

I went to the high school first thing this morning, but quickly realized that Mike wasn’t coming in again. Evidently he’s decided to get tested, so the next day or so will be an exercise in the “filling in” portion of my job. I felt mildly accomplished after spending too much time remembering how to configure switches, and then I took a break to pick up some Subway.

Summer was at the house after prepping a slow cooker roast, so I brought lunch and we ate there. Then I went back to work at the shop for the rest of the afternoon. I tinkered a bit in my new office while some slower processes churned away. I’ll enjoy being there more, but the soundproofing at the high school was unparallelled. I’ll miss the big tunes.

After work, I made it home just before the girls got there, and then Summer took Eaddie out for a bike ride. I had Autumn drive me to Walgreens in her new car, and then dropped her off for her night class. When I got back home, I finished digging out an old side table I’ve had in the garage forever, and used some furniture polish to bring it back to life.

We ate when the girls got back from their ride, and then I picked Autumn back up. We eventually got around to watching an episode of WandaVision, but Summer shut us down on watching any more for the night. Everyone’s getting up extra early tomorrow, so it’s off to bed early.

Needs more portraits.

You Have to See It for Yourself

Summer and I got up this morning and went to breakfast at IHOP since I had a free birthday stack of pancakes. Our server was a former student of hers, but that only made us a little nervous. The restaurant was absolutely packed though, mostly from an after-church rush. She barely came by the table at all, but the food was good.

Summer was going to go home afterward, but we ended up hanging out at the house until the girls got home. Then we watched a couple episodes of WandaVision before heading to my parents’ house for fish soup. We chatted for a little while since we hadn’t been around much since Disney. Then we stopped by Summer’s parents’ house to pick up the Toyota Matrix they were giving to Autumn.

The battery was dead, so we had to jump start it in the rain. The dome light was also burned out, which made finding buttons in the car a little difficult too, but we got it going enough for Summer to bring it back to my house. The girls went on home from there, and I spent some time tinkering with my Galaxy Watch3. I’m afraid it’s not doing much to grow on me, but at least the used market for them looks decent.

AGTSMTH

Dude, You’re Getting a Dell!

I ran home this morning after clicking some more cookies with Eaddie. Uncle Giao and the family came down, so I had to get a laptop ready for him to take. It took me a while to get everything updated and ready to go, but hopefully it works well for him. I spent most of the afternoon at my parents’ house until they left. Then I ate some leftovers before heading back to Summer’s.

Nobody was really hungry for a proper dinner, but Autumn grilled some hot dogs and we all munched a bit in the evening. Then she wanted to watch The Greatest Showman, which I surprisingly didn’t really care for. I didn’t dislike it by any means, but I think I had just built it up to be something completely different in my mind.

When we finished that, I put on The History of Time Travel until Summer and Autumn went to bed. Then Eaddie and I stayed up and watched an episode of House before bed.

No, that was not a real documentary about how someone invented an actual time machine out of an Atari.

Chow, Man

Autumn got up and made unleavened pancakes and eggs for breakfast this morning. Then we finished Cobra Kai. It’s been an incredible show, so we’re anxious to see the next season when it comes out. As the day carried on, Summer eventually got dressed for the gym. I took the time to go home and clean up before coming back before dinner.

Noah came over for the evening, and we went to my parents’ house for dinner. Mom made chow mein with broccoli and cauliflower, which was great. Surprisingly, every one of the kids chowed down on it. Dad smoked the pork I brought over yesterday, but we weren’t sure if it was really done. He finished it up in the oven as we headed home for the evening.

Everyone went to bed pretty quickly, because Noah had to work early the next day. Eaddie came and sat on her computer with me for a little while, and we raced each other in QWOP for a little bit. Then I burned some time on Cookie Clicker and Universal Paperclips.

Actively idle.
